Macht Schnell Stage2?? Opinions?

Hey Guys, after tons of research i am on the fence about this intake.

Some people notice no power at all while others say they gained 12hp on a dyno. Others have said just replace the filter with a aftermarket dry air filter for a 5-6whp gain.

So after reading countless threads i still don't know if i should order this kit or not. I'm looking at replacing my intake filter but don't know if i should save the 400$ and put it towards a filter and the pulley kit instead?

For those who have it? notice anything on the but dyno? Did you lose low end tq or throttle response? did you gain any throttle response?
Did you gain any power in mid range or top end? Just want to see what you guys experienced first hand.

Here's my intake mod progression

BMC air filter --> MS stg 2 intake --> Dinan carbon intake

No power increase felt with just BMC filter, louder intake growl yes.

Slight power increase felt with MS stg2, but I wasn't satisfied with the fitment, so I got a Dinan carbon intake instead.

I just did a dry AEM filter and called it a day. I spent that money on other mods like wheels, suspension, brakes etc etc.

I too was about to get the stg 2 intake but opted just for the AFE pro dry drop in filter. My intentions were never about HP gain which you should take with a grain of salt, but the louder intake noise. Completely satisfied with the drop in.

Honestly the gains are negligible with any aftermarket intake. The OEM intake is extremely efficient. Get a new filter like BMC and call it a day.

The Eventuri intake seems promising but for almost 1k is it worth the gains?

Worth every penny.
Looks great with the elbow!
Looks great with the lid off.
Sounds a lot better! A LOT.
I noticed better throttle response for sure, and I'm sure power was gained. Don't expect a world of difference with +15/414 worth of power.

Would buy again. Sold intake scoops, didn't want to drill into my M.

I bought my M3 with a AA drop in filter already installed. Got a good deal on a used Macht Schnell intake elbow with filter and jumped on it. I noticed absolutely no difference in sound or performance compared to the drop in filter that was already in there.

I'd just go drop in filter

I had the MS Stage 2 along with some other mods and this is the power I put down on a Mustang Dyno, other Mods are listed in the description.

It felt good, but I think intakes dont really do shit for power. I mostly got it for aesthetics anyway.

There is a super street article or two on modding an E90M3 that includes dyno testing. It showed the intake added power. You can find the article online.

My AFE Stg. 2 intake added 11rwhp over my OEM intake. I am going to try and find my dyno slip. Stock it made 346rwhp @7600rpm with the intake it made just a tad over 357rwhp, like 357.3rwhp. This was on a dynojet and it was actually a Mustang shop in Torrance where I dyno'd it called Swanson Performance.

Well what rpm was the 357whp read? Stock peak power is at 8300rpm so that may account for a lot of the difference since your stock dyno number is 700rpm shy of where peak power should be if timing targets are met.

Redline is 8300 not peak power..looking at the graph it looks like peak came in at just under 8k rpm.

Here is the stock graph..

Redline is 8400. 8300 is not peak power on your dyno, but is the true peak power location by design in proper conditions. So power should still be increasing where it falls off on your stock dyno. Can you post the after intake mod dyno?

Many people mistake aftermarket intakes as the airbox only. For the record, the stock airbox is very efficient and most likely likely cannot be improved upon, including materials. However, there are other components of the system that can:

- Filter media
- Filter Mounting Flange
- Intake Charge Pipe

For example, here's a comparison of the intake charge pipe (left) vs Macht Schnell (right). The OEM filter mounting flange (not pictured) also has this restriction, a replacement is provided with the MS intake:

The MS piece also does not have the "accordion" type bend as seen on the stock charge pipe. A less restrictive flange, larger charge pipe and high-flow filter (along with ICS scoops) all work together as a package, resulting in best hp gains - which is why the entire system is included as a kit.

Hope this helps.

Had the Macht Schnell stage 2 on my earlier '08 but didn't feel it gained any power. Looked good though. On this one I just threw a BMC filter and called it a day.

Tough for me to offer any real input as I bought my car w/ the MS Stg2 intake but I've drive drop in filter/test pipe M3's and my car (also has a pulley, tune and full exhaust) and there's simply no comparison. feels totally different. I'm sure that's a combination effect but I do think the MsStg2 makes a nice difference.

I just went with stage 1. Not too intrusive with nice addition to induction noise (you need to change out filter holder if it's euro model or LCI.) Didn't install air scoops since I didn't want to punch a hole into my front subframe.
