Nav Maps Night mode

Is there a way to have the map go to night mode automatically with the headlights?

Thanks in advance

I have used one of the recordable idrive buttons to switch between day and night mode

Correct. You need to get at least a 5- or 7-Series for that as I understand it.

I just program Button #1 to do it.

But you need an '09+ for that . Couldn't find it on my '08. Have to check if screen dims with instruments, which is all I ask. If not, need to check if I can program the 'brightness' setting on a button then. If I can't do neither, then this car is a POS .

There is an Automatic mode in the Day/Night map mode (I can see that selection in the menu after my iDrive swap), but it seems either not implemented or requires extra coding to function.

I will post results if I find a solution.

I've messed with my iDrive for hours on end and as of yet I have not found a thing that allows that... You'd think that BMW would do that. My 2003 VW Toureg had that feature and much older and lesser of a car...

Good call on the programming into the buttons.

Technic - in which menu did you find automatic day/night switching? I've spent a considerable time searching through the various IDrive menus and have never come across that option (my car is an early 2009 build with IDrive software that was last updated in Nov 2008). Could it be a function that was added in the latest IDrive software update?

This is a custom-coded 2009 CIC Day/Night mode menu screen (look at the menu name in the photo, to the left of the clock).

Autologic can code your CIC but again, this Automatic setting does not work so far.
