My CA did it for me. It says in smaller scary letters (as per Jackie). I was so worried she would forget it. She took the plate frame out of the car and has it in her desk, then she put the scary font on my car. lol. She is great to deal with and she can be found at Circle BMW NJ.

IN is a one plate state, thankfully, we have the most hideous plates and really they are about as thick as a beer can. Most screws for holding plates have a small shank or shoulder but with an IN plate and even a frame, they shank out and the plate still flops around. I have to put some shims in mine to stop it. When I lived in IL, I used to carry the front plate in my trunk or behind the seat when I had a p/u truck, kinda mangled up. If I was ever questioned I would just say it was pulled off, fell off, got hung up on something and came off, etc. It's not a mover if I remember right. I'm not condoning breaking the law... oh wait who's kinding who, sure I am, after all it's a rediculous law. BTW for all you that in Chicago, the CPD do have much worse things to worry about than crap like that!

I live in Va. where a front plate is required. Been driving without for years, no problems at all. I asked the dealer not to attach it. I do carry the bracket in my truck, just in case. (lol) I get as many compliments on the look of my car without a front plate as I get asked, "How do you get away with driving without a front plate?"

Here in Canada (well Alberta anyway), no front plate is required period, so my E90 is seamless upfront (sweet).

When I lived in Los Angeles, I got pulled over once by a cop because the license plate on my car was on the front dash.

But the reason the officer said he stopped me was because in case of an accident, it's very dangerous to have your license plate there because it can fly back and comes right at your head.

Why? I am sure it is a small fine, not jail time. It is only a MV law after all.

I live in Toms River and work in Jackson. Hey look out yor window and see if my car is ok JK. I never use a front plate. Even my wifes Lexus RX330 has no plate as per her request. She hates front plates too. We also both have are windows tinted and have no problems. Most PO dont care about front plates and if it is a nice car they almost always overlook it. I dont understand why so many people are scared. No plate just looks clean imo.

What about Europeon Dev. You drive it around Europe with a front license plate. Are there not holes in it when you get it home?

From what I have been reading the answer is yes. I guess they used to affix the tag with some strong double sided tape but are no longer doing that.

In Massachusetts, they've required front licence plates since the red/white/blue plates came out in mid 90's. I've never put on a front plate yet, and have had not one problem. My e36, both e46's and now my e90 do not have one on it. I did use double sided strips and mounted the ED plate up front, to cover the ED screw holes (yes, they are definitely there). The front looks cleaner with no plate/only euro plate, imho.

WTFM8? Questioning a person about why they should follow the law? "I dont like that law, so I won't follow it."

My point has been made in the previous 5000 no front plate threads, so that is all I'll say.

edit: And I see I made a mark on this thread earlier too.

True and it is a dumb law.

I just took off my front plate mount, and I realized that my dealer had used self-tapping screws, which deformed 1 cm around the hole! Are these things removable? If not, it's really a shame because I already ordered bumperplugs for my sapphire black car!

Any solutions?

So far Circle Parts dept has been great to deal with too. I did mail order some parts for them and they shipped them pretty promptly.
