My fake hood vent isn't draining

Hi guys I just bought my m3 about 3 months ago. Being a new owner I have been a little "picky" about the car and have washed it a lot. Probably 7-8 times already always hand wash at home. Yesterday I noticed the passenger side hood vent (the fake one) was filled with water when I was done. I didn't think much of it but I checked it tonight (28 hours later) and it was still full of water. I haven't driven it since I washed it. I used some paper towels twisted up and soaked up the water. What's the deal? I just assumed there was a drain in there that led the water somewhere to exit safely. Is that not the case? Perhaps I have a clog somewhere? Anyone ever experienced this? It also makes me wonder if the "real" passenger vent is draining safely and not into anywhere that matters.

Drill a hole. I use a leaf blower on the car snd it blows most of the water out.

The real vent drains into the air box which has a hole at the bottom to drain.

Haha, great to hear about the cleaning love!

The bonnet "vents" are just a piece of rubber wings on the inside. Never had an issue with them but simply clean them out mate (can't imagen you need to start drill holes?)

Take it off. More cooling and noise.

Why drill a hole it should already have holes in it unless earlier models had a different part? My rubber boot has 3 slots which are quite big. Unless a leaf or something substantial got caught in there?

Picky enough to care about water sitting there which won't hurt anything but not picky enough to notice his his car is a ZCP, not a ZHP.

It's just water sitting in a rubber grommet. I don't understand the point here. The real vent has a real drain hole.

I dont understand your comment. My post never mentioned my car being zcp. Are you referring to another post I made somewhere that maybe I mistakenly said zhp instead of zcp? Easy enough typo to make especially considering I was shopping for the zhp shift knob recently.

I think its perfectly normal for a new owner to wonder about the car holding a cup-worth of water in the hood, no? If you're just the typo police then congrats you got me!

Yes it's perfectly normal question and a legit concern.

I have the same problem after a washed and dry car, going for that first drive and having water splash up after you just dried the car is annoying.

I think he's, rather unhelpfully, pointing out that your car is labeled as a ZHP under your user name on the left.

Back on topic... the water should be draining from the passenger side vent. Mine does fairly quickly after a wash and I've never noticed it by the time I'm drying the car.
Maybe yours has some gunk in there that needs cleaning?

Check to see if it is clogged with tree buds and shit. Mine has a drain slit/cut/hole in the rubber but I still need to manually clean it out once in a blue moon. The drain opening is large enough for me to stick my fingers through and finesse stuff out. Usually it can be cleaned when spraying down the car at self service car wash bays as well.

Ahhh...I see. I'm on mobile so I don't see my car info under my user name. Must've made a typo a while back. Thanks for explaining. Its fixed now so hopefully that dork can sleep at night.

Thanks all for the feedback on the vent. Mine is definitely clogged based on what some of you are describing in terms of yours draining.

I like having it because I park outside under god forsaken trees that shit buds everywhere. Rather the vent catch those assholes and I have a chance to clean it out than then fall into the engine bay.

Grab it and pinch it together and you'll see how it comes out. After a wash, dump it out and reinstall. It should take about three minutes.

I didn't realize it was removable! That is a handy trick to know. Thanks!
