I've been scouting a Surface Pro (6 plus a 256 card inserted for ISTA) as I'm tired of running VM. Thought would be to run everything including video work via race render on the surface.

Excited to follow along in your experience.
I totally forgot that the SurfacePro has a microSD slot (thanks apple for deleting everything..) That definitely seems like a feasible plan.

On a counter note, a VM is nice due to snapshots and I have a working backup copy located on my server at home. Since VMs are largely hardware independent, I could drag that to a new laptop and get going without any real big changes pretty quickly vs a brand new surface setting up ISTA etc again.
Yup! I like the ability to share across VM to the Mac for video editing etc. I just think until AIM gets off their ass and releases a Mac application or at the very least an IOS App getting onto dedicated Windows device is the best option for running all the car specific windows only applications.

Either way we need windows for ISTA, so I guess that's kinda that. Lol.

What are the prices for surface pro 6 right now

Keeping eye on Denver Clist. Pro 6 with 8Gb ram, 128 SSD is about $500. That'll be my move as don't need anything too fancy.

I have windows laptop I bring with me. it was suppose to be my track laptop, but became my go to laptop.

And it is a pain to operate at the track. A Surface Pro tablet format would be ideal.

With My current laptop although the screen is decent, I can't see well outdoor. Is there a screen type recommended for out door viewing?

Is the Surface Pro decent outside?

There are some laptops that have special extra-bright screens (1000-nit) for outside viewing, but they're not super common and can get expensive. It's why I suggested a used Toughbook. Typical laptop screens are 250-400 nit, which is easily overwhelmed by the sun...especially if it has the glossy finish.

My Surface just got here yesterday and I spent last night loading up my normal stuff (AIM drivers, analysis, race render, etc.). I'll test it outside soon, I'll be at the Ridge next Friday and plan to bring it with me.

Eventually. When I get tired of syncing video and data manually.

I'd want more memory than 4GB of RAM. 8GB should future proof it a bit. I'm going with a Surface 6, all reviews point to the 7 being an unnecessary upgrade from the 6.

If this were my primary computer I'd probably pursue higher specs.

Mine will be solely for aim software and ISTA, not sure if that matters or not. Are you still able to get a 6 new? Not sure how I feel about a used computer

I was tempted into the cheaper option and when I review my aim data especially with split reviews and rs3 with video sync it slows down greatly.

I walked into Best Buy and asked what the cheapest laptop is and bought a $200 HP haha

I got a refurbed Pro off Newegg. If you don't mind refurb, they have a lot of good options.
