i don't like the plastic feel of it
i wish ours came with rubber ring tho
i love the all metal texture, but it does get hot under the sun especially after being parked for awhile

I want one of the new ceramic ones that you can get as an option on the new 7 series. No idea how to get one or if they would work in my 2009 M3 however. Looks sleek.

Zed, I think I saw someone with a 09 knob on a 08 idrive controller. The plastic connecting bits appear to be the same.

That 7 Series optional iDrive controller is different in chassis shape and mounting points from the 3 Series iDrive controller. It will not fit in your console unless you really do some cutting and custom mount.

And it is not even clear if it will even plug to your existing connector.

I think LTBMW did one and it worked fine.
