These two things don't seem to have any meaning together as BMW has already allowed people to order without prices.

If you look on top of the dash in this pictures there appears to be a type of cutout HUD (heads up display) ?????

All I can see are the air vents and center speaker (which sit forward of the video screen bulge).

I'm glad DCT has been released, but the vert is not looking good in this iteration. I'm glad I'm getting the coupe.

as for how much weight SMG adds to the e46, it's about 26lbs more.

I was eagerly awaiting the new M-DCT (DKG?) and along with it, and nice brand new shift knob as unique as the system itself was.

I must admit I am pretty disappointed that they put the M5 SMG knob on the system. Even further, I don't like how it looks at all! It is too feminine, the style doesn't go along with how the M3 looks nor its presence.

This, unfortunately, has me re-thinking DCT.

(I'm trying to tell if the shift lever would be removable and replacable like a normal Manual shift knob. If anyone can tell whether or not from the pictures I'd welcome addition points of view on it. The knob is connected to a leather guarder like the manual.)

Changing due to the look? Choosing form over function doesnt make a lot sense in this regard.

Comments on this board never cease to amaze me. You're considering changing your mind about getting the DCT based on the gear knob not being new and looking a bit feminine?

Unbelievable.

If this is enough to put you off the car then maybe a drivers car like the M3 isn't for you.

I'm hoping there will be some more official pictures on monday because we still cannot see yet where the shift lights are. I know there's a 95% chance they'll be around the outside of the rev counter bezel as in the pic below, but I can't wait to find out for sure.

To each there own, eh? If I'm going to spend 3 grand on a option I'd better love every aspect of it. Especially when it is an instrument of the car you become to in touch with. I'll admit is it funny, ironic, idiotic, and senseless. But feelings typically are. More importantly, how can I step into a car I love so much every day and then hate the shift knob? Talk about a buzz kill.

It's possible I'll get over it, and this could just all be disappointment of not having a new look talking.

Off the car? Absolutely not. Off DCT? That is still up for debate. If your going to flame I suggest you be without fault yourself. However, most of my post was simply a display of my displeasure with it being the same as the SMG knob. Plus, everyone has their quirks. Where would the fun be without them?

As for you... While I know you love to hate this place, your still here. Leave, or learn to like it. If you'd like to be constructive it'd be much appreciated.

Yes, I want my shift knob to be a slightly curved shaft with a glans at the top.

Looks good, I'd love to see some E90/92 DCT pics, but E93 is good for now.

Why? It's not going to be any different on the coupe or sedan.

Sorry Ultimate have to agree on this one, this is absurd. You don't buy the DCT for the looks of the knob. Sure it is easy to be a bit disappointed that it does not have a new and M3 unique knob, but to change your mind on the system, get real.

Best regards, south
Great news, can't believe we get pricing and DKG information in the same day. South, will they still call is M-DCT in NA?

Comments:

-If we base .5l/100km improvement on 12.4l/100km (E92 - Coupe), it amounts to a 4% improvement for M-DKG not even counting the weight penalty. Nice.
-BMW always under-rates 0-100 and have done so by about .3-.4s for the E92 M3, that means the E92 M-DKG will be sub 5.0s 0-100km/h and about 4.6s 0-60 mph. Sure wish I had 1/4 mi numbers instead...
-The weight gain is really more than I was expecting, about 507 lb. Ugh. The 335i Convertible only weighs 375 lb more than the Coupe in North America. The M3 must have taken substantial stiffening to maintain the desired feel and chassis stiffness. I'm sure glad I am not interested in the 'Vert at this weight.
-Shifter looks lifted right from the M5, but paddles are clearly unique (hope that keeps you in the DKG camp Ultimate...)

Well, i'll give it some time to settle in my head then and take another look at it. Maybe I should add in that I wasn't interested in the DCT simply for the different knob, I am genuinely enthused and excited about the new transmission and what it achieves, but the re-use of the SMG knob caused enough distaste to make me question it over a simple 6MT. I'm a bit surprised though that my comment got that reaction. Especially since we can be so passionate about so many specific or detailed aspects of the car with such high standards.

I did like the paddles very much.
