Cheapest way to experience Summit Point Main?

I decided recently I want to experience as many race courses as I can, just hit me I have visited Summit Point like 5x times, but never Main.

What is the cheapest way to experience Summit Point Main? Doesn't look like Track Night in America goes there.

I was just there. Such a tiny track

At least they've fixed the deer issues from prior years

Yes

I had blacklisted the track after seeing two Pcars get totalled in the same weekend due to deers.
Years later they've apparently fenced it in and now that part is solved. It is still a teeny technical track

Which of the 3 tracks? Main track isn't huge but i wouldn't call it tiny. Jefferson is definitely tiny though.

For an E9X it is still tiny. I'm talking about Summit Main

I wouldn't say it is tiny for e9X. Been running there for years with stock suspension, BBK, and summer tires and got down to 1.24s. That is pretty fast compared to most cars on the track. I have only waved by a few cars in my years running on Main.

Main is a short track in regards to turns (10 turns) but distance wise it's pretty average. There are a lot of high mph areas that require some guts

What would a stock E92 hit on the longest straight on Summit Point Main?

Really dependent on how you hit turn 10 (the last turn before the front straight) but I'd guess somewhere between 125-130

That seems way low for an E9x M3 with a decent driver. Back when I was tracking an E46 M3, I was hitting 145-150 on the speedo. Which, I fully grant, means less in actual speeds. But I was hitting the rev limiter in 4th gear and spending time in 5th, which means 140+ real speed.

I personally really enjoy Summit Main. Especially the Turn 3/4/5 complex, which is WAY faster than most people think it is. Is it VIR? No. Is it fun? Yeah.

I run a 1:19.5 at Summit Main, and I hit 138. My car is spec'd out for NASA TT3, not saying a stock m3 can't get up to the 130s, getting a jump out of 10 is the key and without aero and tires you're quite limited on that high speed turn.

There are ST3 e46m3's that run 1:17-1:18 all day, but we are talking full on race car prep on those guys.. I don't even think they're deep in the 140s on the front straight

I think a stock M3 and a full aero race car are likely to have a quite similar trap speed on the main straight. At some point the drag from big wing, plus don't forget wide tires are extremely draggy, is going to overcome turn 10 exit speed advantage. I've been just nudging 160mph there as a passenger but that was in a pretty slippy aero wise Ferrari running R comps driven by a BSR instructor. So new to the track average drivers in a stock M3 I'd expect them to see 130mph being conservative into turn 1 braking zone.

Also having spent a ton of time in the turn ten tower you will notice the real fast drivers are able to get on the power way earlier than most DE guys where you hear them maintenance throttle or gathering things up as they go unnecessarily wide onto the exit apron. That's a good 10mph difference right there.

I'll also add the only actual data point I can specifically recall is a fully caged current gen Camaro, 750+ WHP, ~315mm Hoosiers all four corners, massive wing but active aero, the data trace was 172 or 174 mph can't recall which.

Spec E30s run out 4th gear at ~120MPH (adjusted for the little bitty tires). And then they spend time in 5th.

I do not understand how an E9x M3 driven by someone moderately experienced isn't getting deep into the 130s.

They also weigh a ton less going much deeper into that braking zone. On the e9x, even equipped with good brakes/decent street tires, you've got to be quite early on the brakes for turn 1 given how slow this turn is

Yeah, I get that. I've been around Summit Main in the driver's seat of an E30, E36 M3, E46 325xiT, E46 M3, Spec Miata, E46 in GTS2, 993, etc.

I still don't see how an E30 with ~170hp and the aerodynamics of a brick, even in moderate race car trim, is only 5MPH slower on the straight than a competently driven stockish E9x M3.

Edit: Also, if you have big aero, you're slow at the end of the straight. Fast lap times, but the big wing DEFINITELY hurts top speed.

I haven't been there in years but I do recall hitting roughly 120 in an e30 325is. I just had coilovers and the old RA1s. Also tracked a c5 z05 with only RA1s and hit roughly 140 there.
Not a fast driver, just average pace I'd say. I barely broke 1:30 in the e30 and got in the lower 1:20s with the z06. Traffic and skills held me back. Likely more of the latter. Lol.
I instructed briefly there and I rode in and e90 m3 begginer group. I distinctly remember him breaking over 130 consistently.

I know the speedometers in the cars won't be as accurate as GPS or whatever fancy toys people are using these days. Maybe that is what is causing the discrepancy in speeds on the main strait?

With a stage 2 tune, I was hitting mid 130s on the front straight consistently on the front straight and thats with an awful entry/exit out of T10 so YMMV. The track is subpar but compared to Dominion is vastly better. I prefer Shenandoah, because its more technically and personal nostalgia.

Is anyone running with Chin this weekend? I see another m3 signed up for this weekend.

I have a hard time going into the chute without breathing on the brakes first to settle the car, but I agree; the chute and turn 4 require some fortitude if you want to get the most out of the track.
