Clutch/flywheel replacement?

What are the as I signs of a failing clutch in the early model 2008 m3? I experience some clutch noise during disengagement in 1st to 2nd gear. I have been told that the clutch noise is common in the early models.

Still need to do the 4th gear test...

The clutch pedal squeezes during engagement...

What can you recommend for diagnosing clutch/flywheel early symptoms of failure?
Thanks in advance !

They're noisy, and a bit clunky form the get go. Early symptoms may include:
slipping under acceleration, hard to shift, sticky / spongy clutch pedal feel when clutch pedal pressed, and/or burning smell.

I have the same car and wondered the same bc of the clunky noise but through this forum understood that was "normal"
