Trunk Clear Coat Damage

This past weekend I decided to take off my m3 oem lid/spoiler off my trunk and I believe I damaged my clearcoat. I did research on how others have done it and many use 3m adheasive remover and a plastic scraper/razor to remove the tape. So I decided to go this route. I ended up masking as much as my trunk as I could and sprayed the 3m adheasive remover on the tape. After removing 95% of the adheasive tape, I took off my masking tape and noticed that it appeared my clear coat was damaged, within the unmasked area where the trunk spoiler was. I worked in my garage and never applied heat to the area while the 3m spray was on. What did I do wrong and is there a way to fix this??

Looks more like it was a poor clear coat job. Has the trunk ever been repainted?

I'm the second owner of this car. I bought it when it had 19k miles and currently its at 22k. I'm pretty sure it wasn't repainted, but I don't know. I noticed my trunk seems to be super soft paint though. Seems like a little drop of water here or there will etch into it. Wonder if any jet black m3 owners can chime in about the paint of their trunks. But, I still don't know how this happened. The only reason I decided to remove the tape this way was because of all the good things I read about 3m adheasive remover and this method.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say someone installed that spoiler right after the trunk had been painted. The paint probably hadn't dried enough and they put an impression into it from the pressure of the spoiler being pushed into place.

Go to your favorite body shop and have them take a look.

Yep, that looks like it may have been installed when paint wasn't dry (and might indicate a repainted trunk).

Why don't you just add a CF performance (high kick) spoiler and then this won't be visible ?

Reason for taking off the spoiler. It covered the problem area for the meantime.
