Harrop was consulted about the mod and although there may be some closed throttle driving situations where there is potential for high intake air temps, it is only momentary and is eliminated as soon as the throttle is opened. If you are running on the track, on a hot day, maybe you take it out. For my typical street driving, it stays in and has never been out. I've driven the car now for 1 year and 5,000 miles with it blocked off and have no problems.

This is shocking to me. Supercharger whine is beautiful. Unless of course it's unbearably loud. I would never equate the sound with, say, an obnoxious exhaust though.

I love the whine too, and this mod does not change that sound a whole lot. But in real world situations, I feel this might help me enjoy my car and not raise the dead when driving at odd hours through populated areas. Im still testing, but so far it helped tame the sound down just a bit, enough to make me feel less fatigued on a long top down run, or cringe less when I have to leave at 6am to go somewhere in fear of the neighbors not appreciating that the whistles go woo woo and its an alarm clock. Having a SC attracts attention to you driving. The harrop is like a big loud siren that winds up as you speed up and says look at me. Much of the attention is good, but you must consider the other side. You are not showing up anywhere with this kit on without making an entrance, even with this mod.

I think this mod has more impact on cabin noise that the driver/passenger hears than the sound pedestrians/other cars may hear, though it reduces the decibel level of both. When I have a friend that can listen from the street ill let you know what he says.

But I have to say that I appreciate Harrop's presence in the supercharger market. For some of us the super charger wine is too loud for some of our tastes. And others will love it.

Roots type vs centrifugal.

I.E., the s/c'er is contained inside the manifold as opposed to being a separate unit that sits outside the manifold.

Positive displacement SC's provide almost full boost at 3krpm while other types of kits build boost as you go up the rpm curve.

More accurately its a twin screw, vs centrifugal. It's not a traditional straight lobed roots blower.

All kits except the Harrop kit use a centrifugal blower. This is essentially is the compressor side a turbo, but instead of being powered by an exhaust turbine, its powered by a pulley connected to the engine.

The harrop is a twin screw positive displacement supercharger.

A centrifugal blower usually takes more rpm to make boost than a twin screw or roots blower. However, they provide very good upper rpm performance.

A roots blower makes very good bottom end power, but usally tapers off in the upper rev range.

A twin screw blower on the other hand behaves like a roots blower only better in every way. It gives good bottom end like a roots blower, but gives power better than a roots blower in the upper rev range. Its a largely more efficient design, which translates into more power. Twin screw blowers are more expensive to manufacturer than a roots blower, which is why most cheap kits you see are roots blowers.

The harrop kit from everything I have seen appears to be the real deal. A legitimate intercooled twin screw blower. Its adds power where our car lacks, in the bottom rpm range, and continues do deliver power in the upper rpm range.

I'd take a twin screw blower over a centrifugal blower any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Haha.. there are more cars than that - but the white E90 was purchased to part out (mainly because I wanted his custom interior in my E90). All the parts have been pulled off and the brakes and blower have been sold. There are tons of parts left over and I will be having my assistant post up sale threads.

Blocking off the hood vent will significantly reduce the blower whine noise for those that don't like it. There will be no adverse affects from blocking this vent. I love the way it sounds, so my vent will stay as is.

I've had this blower for over two years and it never fails to impress in every category.

All blowers utilizing the Eaton TVS 1740 rotors are postive displacement blowers. The TVS 1740 rotors are four-lobe with a higher degee of twist than conventional PD rotors that are normally three-lobe. The physical appearance does look similar to a set of twin screw rotors.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
There was a creature stirring, and it wasn’t a mouse.
The stockings where hung by the chimney with care,
But from the looks of my garage, St Nick’s already been here.

Finally the children nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of superchargers dance in my head.
The kids and wife settled down for a nap,
I headed downstairs and put on my cap.

And from the garage there grew such a clatter,
Whistles and bells of my S65, Harrop and exhaust for that matter.
Away to the streets I flew like a flash.
Doing my best to avoid law and a crash.

On Eaton, on Harrop, on Michelin tires!
On Bavarian motorworks beautiful style.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all the Harrop owners, a good flight!!

Production of kits has stopped until second week of January starts. Kits will be available for purchase shortly thereafter. The last kit available before Xmas was sold.

We're going to be back on this in the next few weeks - just had a discussion with Harrop about it.

Three kits shipped this week - the kits are gaining a lot of popularity especially from those that get a test drive

In case you guys haven't seen, there is an editorial magazine that released an article on it here: https://issuu.com/motorwerksmagazine...16_pri_edition
(See page 8-13)

Happy Harroping!
