Battery age

Anyone have a clue how to interpret the sticker on my battery (this is near the negative terminal) to determine its age? I'm not having any problems with the battery, but I don't see any record of it being replaced in the service history before I owned it, and if it's the original battery, then this thing is 6.5 years old now. And if so, I should probably start thinking about replacing it before winter. Any ideas?

Hmm. Did you have to remove the big terminal connector to see it?

Where would I be looking? I can't see the positive post under the connector block.

Scratch that...looks like it was on the negative post. Appears to be 06 12, which I guess means 6th week of 2012, since the manufacture date of the car is March of 2012. So basically, this thing is over 6 1/2 years old!

I guess I should go ahead and replace it before winter.

Will do. That's a pretty good run for a battery!

Just got a 25% coupon from Advance Auto also, bringing the cost of a new AGM battery to just over $150. Not too bad, and I already have the Carly app for battery registration.

No need to replace your battery with a CTEK battery tender .

I do have a CTek, but isn't a 6.5 year old battery at end of life even with the CTek?

Charge your battery with the CTEK a few weekends (at least 48 hours)
CTEK prolongs the lifetime of your battery ...
And if it still drains , a battery replacement is required .

I have the CTEK MUS 4.3 Polar edition and it's fantastic. The Polar version has plastics that stay flexible in temperatures well below freezing so they don't crack or break in other ways. I keep my 2011 M3 with its original battery on it all winter long (plenty of -30/-34 F/C degree temps) and never have issues starting it in the spring or throughout the summer. Replace the battery when it fails.

Wow, that's impressive. But the Advance battery for $150 is a pretty good deal so proably worth the cheap insurance.

Well, since I'm not all that concerned about lap times at this stage, I think I can probably better spend the money elsewhere <cough> track wheels + tires <cough>

you're doing your mod math wrong sir. you got to figure its $400 for an oem battery and $1,100 for the voltphreaks. you're going to spend the $400 either way, so just spend $700 more and get the way better upgrade.

so you're really only "spending" $700.
