There are a few existing threads on this topic. The supply chain for OEM ignition coils is a long one. Possibly because at the moment ignition coil production is going to car makers and not the replacement retail market. I believe the OEM Coil Packs might be manufactured by Bosch but include chips that are Asian in origin. Hence, we know how WooFlu rippled through Asia. For example; crippling supply of semiconductors. Some folks have sought out alternatives but keep in mind the OEM Coil Packs have a chipset in the head so the ionic knock sensing can function with the DME to retard ignition when needed. Think crap fuel. Anyway, this means not just any old coil pack will work. Check this thread for what others have said and experienced.

There was a time when we weren’t subjected to the M tax for coils. But, people stockpiled “preventatively” as inventory dwindled and all the valid Bosch units disappeared.

Personally, I blame the person that was doing yearly replacements on ignition coils through FCP Euro.

Prices went up across the board, it was a supply issue. Plus the aftermarket supplier screwed up the NGK ones so nothing available other than BMW ones so naturally prices went up.

Probably not related to FCP in any way.
