These comments about dealer MSRP are making me nervous for you. I think you're in for an expensive ownership without this forum's help.

I don't think it looks different from behind, it's the method where you open each top of the box and cover the perforated pipes and then weld the tops back.
Ok, so you might actually enjoy it. Just get an oem xpipe then and flash to oem software.

So so many more things are 10x worse than essentially test pipes and an OEM mod... to name a few: dumping a rod knocking car, hiding an accident with significant body damage, various oil leaks that could occur, etc.. Selling a car with this MINOR of a list of modifications is pretty much nothing in terms of dumping "cost" onto another owner unexpectedly. If you had a PPI, which any buyer should do, it would have caught this ~$300 fix, and I'm sure you could have shaved it off the purchase easily. I'm kind confused by the entire thing I just read.... you could probably trade a modified x-pipe & modded OEM exhaust for stock and made a few hundred bucks on the deal easily. :
I did get a PPI and in no current analysis has this been a $300 complaint fix. If you can point to that, that would be fantastic. OEM this is $7800 from BMW parts and installation retail. Maybe there is a cheaper path but contracts are in force.
A stock x-pipe and OEM exhaust are essentially the cheapest things you can buy for this car.. so many people are dumping those parts at nothing in favor of the setup YOU CURRENTLY HAVE.. and paying thousands to do what you have.

Perhaps a nice CPO Camry is a better path for you....

ot yet found stock.

I think you may misunderstanding me.

I have been using BMW to get parts and pricing.
I have been letting the dealer I purchased from gather their own, but thus far they cant locate inventory. BMW can, they can't - just information.
No?
Normally people post and take the input from very experienced E9x enthusiasts and have those moments of "ah hah! that makes sense" on a variety of topics and questions. You seem to just be ignoring what everyone is saying, who are more trustworthy than the dealerships you are talking to, and just repeating what they told you, over and over and over. What's the point of this?

I don't know anymore - I'm a bit lost in this thread. Best of luck whatever you decide.

I seemed to have missed the original thread. This is the first thread I saw when I opened the app for the first time in a month.

What I'm seeing just peering in from the outside is the OP bought a car without cats and didn't realize it, has been quoted $7,800 by BMW to replace them, and doesn't want the car anymore?

Here's a stock setup for $379:
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F323940152712

Pair of new gaskets for $11 each with a lifetime warranty:

And here's a 25% off coupon for Dress Barn:

LOL what? I bought a car with a tune and test pipes, but came with stock cats. Had a muffler shop swap the cats back on, dealer flash to OEM tune. Cost ~$300 total, sold the test pipes here for $200. BFD.

Yep. What a great way to waste everyone's time. Now the thread is even more useless.

@cjm41 had my favorite post in this saga. Literally I was laughing in bed and had to share the thread with my wife.

So we have that going for us! Which is nice.

I missed this the original post, but most states allow some sort of recourse for the buyer for IN STATE CAR PURCHASES if the car can't pass emissions/safety.

I know here in Mass, if the car can't pass inspection within 7 days of purchase, the seller has to pay for the repairs in order to pass or has to offer to repurchase the vehicle, plus any taxes or fees.

But if it's an interstate commerce purchase (like over Ebay from another state), I don't think there is much recourse.

As I recall from the deleted posts, the OP got the dealer to buy back the car.

I can't see the original post, was the car a nice, clean example? For sale by dealer?

If anything, this should be a reminder of how little actually goes into the "200 point pre-owned inspection" or whatever the dealers say that they do to prepare these for sale. It's literally the first thing you see after putting the car on a lift.

They just slather the interior and engine bay with armor-all and call it a day. I got home, jacked mine up, and found 4 items that needed addressing and got them to pay for two of them. It happens.

Dumb people give dealers a bad reputation. You are the one looking for the car, you are the one spending your money in the car and you are the one who should research the car BEFORE you drive it home. It's not the dealers responsibility to disclose everything about the vehicle. It's the dealers responsibility to show the car and legally facilitate the sale.

Stop bitching and whining about getting screwed over by dealers and start acting like a responsible consumer and do your homework and if you can't handle that then buy a 0 mile car.

This is an example why I deleted my content here. You are wrong but feel okay to call me names if it makes you feel good.

At the end of the day I had no choice but to agree to a buyback - no choice.
