Having video recorded with overlaid data while allowing you to use good quality video would be a game changer.

My youtube channel is anonymous. I enjoy having video I can actually see. When I watch smartycam the only thing I can think about is the horrible quality.
4k60 to 720p30 is massively different.

Also, I don't overlay data to every single session. We are not pro drivers and most of the time it's clear where the user error occurred. Sometimes you have time to dig deeper and then you want to see where the throttle was or whether there was a confidence braking incident.

Even back when we live streamed the AER races, quality was still better than the Smartycam!! Jesus!

Wasn't implying that your priority is getting more YouTube likes, sorry if it came off that way.

Resolution isn't really what people should be looking at. I'd rather have 720p with a more accurate sensor than 4K with incorrect color and bad contrast. In the SmartyCam's case, it's low res and a shitty sensor.

No worries, you had good points. I may be a bit obsessed about good video

However, if you are using the videos for on track learning, and later on for virtual coaching, the Smartycam data overlay is more important than the quality of the video.

Downloading a smartycam video and watching a trouble spot while having a 25 minutes break between sessions is a possibility.
You pull it onto the iPhone? Or you mean YouTube smarty video in general?
I save all my videos into my laptop.
I upload few to YouTube.

On my laptop, I get what I need from the videos.

On YouTube, playing on the phone there is not much difference between my YouTube videos or SYT. also on the 15" laptop screen (Dell) there is not much difference.

However, playing my YouTube videos on 60" TV they look terrible, and SYT videos look great.

Weird I spend like 10 minutes syncing with the data wizard.

Export days into CSV
Export go pro media
Open race render template, locate above files
Open data sync wizard set to first cross off the finish line. Line up the video and hit sync.
Play a few spot checks of shifting timing.
Bam. Done.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong by trying with to jump straight to a specific lap. I often edit the video down to said lap, and export only the data for said lap. The offsets etc, race render throws a conniption. I'll try the full file

Use the full file. For me, I export the full session from AIM to CSV. In Race Render, I'll import the *video* first - and it will recognize it from my GoPro it's a segmented file and automatically join everything. Then I add data.

From there I just use side by side view to sync up when the aim shows me starting to leave the pit lane. This is a rough good enough and then as I drive around the track I sync up rev downshift by ear to the data to make it more precise.

Create Video and you can pick out the lap by time you want exported. It'll add 10 seconds of intro and outro for you.

They're awesome. My buddy has one and I'm super jealous of his dual camera setup.

Yea, if you fully sync the whole video, you can select your lap to export in the export options window.

👍

I tried syncing from the start of the video / data and it's much cleaner. Didn't take but a minute, and found the option to create a specified lap(s) video.

Also, the latest Garmin Catalyst update enables data overlay very similarly to Smarty. Obviously it's not CAN data but I only need speed, lat/long force, and lap timers. Looks like it offers variance to optimal as well. Camera is 1080p, and I'm sure given it's separate this can update to 2.7k or 4K.

I never really understood this until I have started tracking more frequently. The last thing I want to do is worry about video.

I will pay for reliability/dependability above pretty much everything at the track, other than safety (though in a way it's tangential). My mind should be 100% focused on cranking out a good lap.

I also don't like spending time at the track wrenching on the car or fiddling with data/video systems. The time inbetween sessions is so I can catch my breath, take a quick look at my laps, and then prepare for the next session.

Glad to hear it only took a few minutes!

Do you know if the latest update will retroactively add overlay to older videos? That looks pretty cool and I haven't touched the catalyst since my last track day.

Yes! You go into the video for a specific segment or lap. Then in the upper right hand corner hit the save icon. You can then select which laps to create the video. Takes a minute for the catalyst to process / save the video.

Having the Garmin run constantly in my car has been a great benefit to me, especially when GoPro randomly decides to ignore my spot metering:

The only thing salvageable was the sound from the GoPro.

Use exposure lock on the GoPro. Do NOT use auto exposure.
