Battery size question

I have a 2010 e92 m3. It is time to change the battery. I opened the trunk and found that my current battery is an autozone duralast T8-DLG. Group size T8-LBN5-93. Funny thing is that auto zone says this battery does not fit my car. And I have search everywhere says I should be using an H8 battery. So should I be finding an T8 or H8 battery now?

Mine is beginning to go bad, and after a little bit of searching, I will be replacing mine with an Interstate MT7-48 H6. Recommended For: 2011 BMW M3 V8/4.0L w/o AGM, Option 3. Suggested Retail Price (in USD) $259.95 tto $288.95.

H is AGM. I think H8 is correct size. H6 is smaller and lighter and will get the job done but may not last as long particularly in areas with winter.

Makes me wonder why I have been using a T8 battery... I plan to get an H8 battery installed then drive home to code it myself. May be a 5-6 miles drive. Will I have a problem? Or should it bring the battery home and install it myself then code it right away.

Take a rough measurement of the length. About 14” is H8, 94R is about 12.5ish and H6/48 is 11”
Be careful using car matched battery suggestions mine came up as an H6 but the one in there was a much bigger H8. I believe the three battery sizes are due to the options installed in the car. More options require more battery power so think about it. Also H6 is about 70aH down from about 90aH from an H8 so won’t power as long with the engine not running. Also you’ll need to recode the battery if its more than a 10aH difference.

What are you going to code it with? Carly doesn’t work and I’ve heard schwaben doesn’t either

Also it’s odd you have a 2010 and are about to be on your third battery already

There’s three different battery sizes that are factory installed. You should replace it with whatever size you have now, unless you’re dead set on weight savings which comes with consequences

Don’t worry about coding right away. Just do it eventually if you are changing sizes. Otherwise simply reset battery adaption.

To reset adaption, use an advanced scan tool like the $150 Foxwell NT510. You get a free car specific module when you register the tool. Choose bmw/mini/rolls. Carly probably does it but I don’t know.

Carly supposedly does it which is what i tried but theres no proof that it actually works cuz it doesnt log a new battery

i thought you were saying there was someway to do it in idrive or something like resetting the oil interval after a change

I'm pretty sure you can reset adaptations with INPA. Would need an obd to usb cable and a laptop

Yes. That is a tool. Software in an electronic tool (laptop in the case of inpa) with a cable.

I just got a couple of Bosch H8, one for my 08M3 and one for my 08 535xit. 92AH, 850CCA, 1020CA, 160 min reserve, 53 lbs. Looks like it is made by Exide.

Is it a good battery? Or are all the AGM H8s comparable?

well ive only had mine in for about a week. Bosch/Exide are OEM suppliers so theres some M3s that came out of the factory with that very same battery. other than finding a cheap place to have it registered properly its fine so far. my rear defrost has come back to life and its started right up today at 10 degrees this morning. i got mine for $130 so it was an obvious choice for me. plus i think the Bosch H8 is about 5-6lbs lighter

Mine came from Pep Boys but other places probably carry them also. And the same battery is probably sold under other names. Pretty much all batteries are made by 2 companies. Johnson Controls and Exide. Probably all AGM H8s are very comparable.
