This has been consistent all across..... I am glad I am sticking w/ M3

Please post pics of your S5. Meteor w/ Magma Red was my color choice....

I've seen both in person and played around with both..... I think the whole Audi int thing is bit of a myth..... It probably is impressive if you like bunch of buttons but I am going to have to go w/ M3. The decorative lighting alone makes it worth it.... The only thing I liked better was the S5's sunroof!

I like the R8, its coming out next year as a vert with a V10, that will do me for the 09-10 years!

Not meaning to be rude or anything but the S5 isn´t really all that much of a WOW-Car.
Sure it looks nice (especially in white) but that´s about it & to compare it with an AM even at a glimps? I dunno but I did get the chance to check one out while I was looking for my new fun-mobile and the car over all is just too much in an all round comparison than the M3 is and sure it´s cheaper but it also has much less fun in stock, so I´m glad I got my M3 DKG and haven´t regretted it one bit

yes... on an M3 forum.

go read car reviews on the S5, every one of them talks about the car being beautiful but lacking in performance.

And then concider there is an RS5 coming next year, with an estimated 480bhp, dual clutch, all kinds of new tech blah blah blah.

this is for the guy who wanted gray/red

Funny, I parked beside an S5 the other day when up the town and on returning to my car I could help noticing that the Audi is the more aggressive looking of the two. Heaven knows what the RS5 will look like, though I doubt most by-standers will even notice an M3 parked next to it.

P.S.
Your S5 looks lovely.

Pretty much all across..... I have been on the Audi forums doing a research for months... They will all tell you how beautiful the car is, how great the AWD is (which I don't care) and for those who drove the M3 will tell you what a great handling car M3 is and most S5 owners will call the M3 a "rocket"....So please don't tell me to "go read" stuff as I am not just going to buy a $70K car without reading reviews....

And, yes, there will be a RS5 and it will be a great car blah blah blah....

M3 will have to be it for a while until we see some RS5's.......even then it might be head to head w/ M3 as far as performance is concerned....

Buying a S5 would of been great savings over M3 (Minus Audi's depreciation) but then why buy a beautiful car that is just boring to drive....

As much as I like the S5 looks wise, the performance compared to the M3 will be lacking, it just won't be as nimble or accelerate like it should, I just don't think it will appeal to some people, the M3 is a better buy, but if it's looks is all you care about then by all means buy that S5, now when the RS5 comes out we will see, but I think it will be a bit heavy, still, and too much money, more than when, say, a CSL M3 comes out and probably not perform as well also.

you probaly should go read some more.

the car does 0-60 in 4.9, thats hardly a 'boring' drive. Offering more comfort, more practical technology and less overengineering, the S5 is a more affordable more practical version of an M3.

If i were to get one TODAY, id buy an M3, just because i would enjoy it more than i would an S5... but the S5 has a higher quality interior (if you took out the M// stuff, you'd have trouble telling the M3 from a 328) is more comfortable and has a less punishing ride.

but this time next year... RS5 all the way.

usually when an automaker comes out and says they are NOT making a car, i stop using it in comparisons.

this is the biggest problem of the m3. has a good base price but the options list makes it now a 70k car. i mean in 10 yrs its gone up something like 70% in price. i love driving mine around but damn thats a lot of money for ppl to pay sticker. once the s5 starts getting discounts like the m3 is getting, i'd say that would be a great deal, but until then the price gap is too small which is why i went the m3 route.

The S5 is very hot. If it were RWD and had about 80 more HP I'd be all over one.

I stand corrected, I should not make comparisons to fictional automobiles.

As much as I like the S5, I think the RS5 will be a much better auto than the S5 and a much better comparison to the M3, probably better, as was the RS4 to the E46 M3.

RS4 > E46 M3 > S4

but at what cost, back then the E46 M3 was 48-54k, RS4 66k +

Okay, I usually stay out of these comparos because it's all about subjective, personal opinion, but this is just way off. A good 0-60 time does not a fun drive make. It is reasonably quick, but the S5 is not tremendously fun to drive like the M3. The S5 does not have more "practical technology" (whatever that means) than the M3, which is loaded with features and gadgets (too many in my opinion).

The M3 was more comfortable to me than the S5, especially the seats, steering wheel, and general ergonomics. And how is the M3 ride "punishing"? It's ride is tight, but compliant. Perfect for daily driving in my opinion.

You got it spot on! Most people are comparing the S5 to the M3 with full knowledge that the RS5 is what is meant to compete with the ///M. If the situation were reversed and the 335i was being compared to teh RS5, most beemer diehards would complain saying, why cant Audi fanboys compare it to the M3.

I dont even think the S5 performance is anything dull at all (0-100km/h in 5 seconds is quick - enough to get you into jail)...and rumour has it, next year its gonna be changed to a V6 TT engine which should make it quite interesting, with the RS5 being a TT V8. This for me is the future....and lets face it - beemer might be in a great deal of trouble in the not so distant future unless they jackup!

Just my 50 million Zim$!

The S5 gets beaten around a track by a 335i. An M3 would eat it alive. The RS5 will probably be a monster, but it may end up costing over $80k.

Please show me where the evidence is that the stock 335i beats the S5 on the track. The only info I know of is the Fifthgear entertainment show, I only Sport Auto have tested both and on the ring they posted identical times and on Hockenhiem the S5 was comfortably ahead.

I would agree the M3 would eat it alive, but everyone should view the S5 as in between the 335i and the M3, with it's performance being closer to the 335i but it's image being closer to the M3.

Oh and yes the RS5 will be a monster which will be as big an improvement over the E92 as the RS4 was to the E46.

Love My M3 more then any car i've ever owned
. But i think the S5 is a stunner. It might be a little slower then the M3 but for everyday use who really cares...
I live in Montreal and winters here are tough. So the S5's AWD would have been a great + for me.
Had there not been a 1 year wait on the car , i might have gone that route...

I gotta be honest, between the A5/S5.....I would rather have the A5. The price difference just doesn't justify the marginal increase in straight line speed, while sacrificing handling/and economy. I love my e92 M, and wouldn't get rid of it for anything less then a vehicle like a 911tt, R8, etc. Even the RS5 will be awesome, but if I can get the same performance out of my M, while getting 7-10mpg better at a lower price it seems like a bargain.

Of course, the big pieces of plastic on the front of the car look bad, but I am sure that you could replace/remove those at some point. My girlfriend is looking at a new car, and it has pretty much come down to an A5 or a 335xi. Tough choice. Can't really lose I suppose, the A5 is all she really needs, the 335 would satisfy my speed needs during the Vermont winters though...
