1. The longer wheelbase of the M5 makes it a slightly nicer highway cruiser 2. The M3's wheels exhibit less "jounce" over bumps than the M5, regardless of EDC setting 3. The M3 feels more tossable, but I'm not so sure there really is a big margin 4. The M3's steering is more precise, but the M5 seems to have better on center feel even though its ages old recirculating ball 5. The M5 has much silkier idle 6. The M3 has cools electronics that work well, the M5 has pet rocks with buttons I've been interupted 5 times since I started to write this... more thoughts will percolate later!

Ah, good excuse to call the M3 back on stage me thinks! Personally the 18s are OK, not great in my opinion, but if you like 'em here's more

Very beautiful, the M3 logo looks soooo small compared to the M5.
Great looking m5 too.

Agreed. I didn't realize how much smaller the logo was until I did this shoot. I sorta wish the ///M3 were a tad larger

Rvacha,
Thanks for all your efforts in photographing and posting your excellent pics. Your E39 is an absolute beauty. I would hold on to that one. What slight differences can you detect in the two colors, if any? Do you have second thoughts about getting the 18s? I am still on the fence about the 18s but I must say, your car puts them in their best light. They are definitely the preferable wheel size in regards to track time, cost of ownership, tire replacement options, and all around drive-ability. I am still trying to talk myself into the 18s, but my vanity regarding the look of 19s keeps calling me. If I were to succumb to the 19s, I would then have to purchase EDC to make up for the reduced sidewall. Practicality vs vanity, it is tougher fight than it should be. |
