Depressed...Spent the afternoon with a Carrera S
During my usual weekly inspection of the local inventory, I spotted a beautiful 2013 911 S. Less than 3k miles, sports exhaust, 7 speed manual, with platinum interior. Best part was it was listed at only $88k. Carfax checked out fine so I just had to see it for myself. Big mistake!
If you haven't driven one, it's a must. A 911 is an animal. When sitting behind the wheel, you can feel how mean this car is. It's got the stance of a bull dog and sounds like an angry rhino. Sports plus pushed and sport exhaust enabled it takes off screaming. Hit 4k rpm and the fun begins. It just keeps pulling all the way to 8k, in every gear. I don't know why you need more than 3 gears in this car...3rd is good to over 100mph. It produces a visceral driving experience I've not had since my 1978 Mazda RX7. The 911 really didn't feel any faster than my slightly modded 335, but it had TONS of grip, amazing handling, and unbelievable sound/feel! ...moving forward, dealer gave me the car for the afternoon, brought it home to give the wife and kid a ride, and she hated it. Thought it was beautiful but it was loud, too fast, daughter doesn't fit well in the back (grumpy 10 year old). Ugh! Heartbroken! Really want to buy this but logic says no. I don't need or deserve a car like this. I already drive too fast and this would just make it worse. All in all, it's a pretty pricey weekend toy for me so I'll likely pass. For those of you who have pulled the trigger on a new 911, I'm very jealous.

That looks like a 991, that's encouraging that it's in the 80's, because in my mind, my budget is 85k on my next car. not going to happen overnight, and will take years to squirrel away that money. I would bet that price is on the low side, and a 7-spd man is pretty rare.
Rather than be depressed, imho a person should figure out how to go and get it. That's how it was for me and the 335i coupe. |

Beautiful car and exterior color but not a fan of the interior color.. I f I brought that home for a afternoon, my wife wouldn't like it either out of fear I may find a reason to justify owning it
I have always loved the 911 and the new 911/camans and even boxters look amazing! $88k is no easy pill to swallow. My e92 is strickly a weekend car and even though I have never regreted the purchase.... I wish I drove it more! Like all cars, its tough to settle on one because the options for XYZ price are so abondant noadays.. At 88K, we have GTR's, R8's Modded M3's, F-type ..... so many to choose from.. Its hard out there for a guy torn between a car lol but like you, I shop local inventory all the time and make it harder on myself. My wife says I just need to be content with what I have..

I agree with you regardless, I would be lying if I didn't admit to the struggle, hustle and bustle of trying to obtain my e92 when I first purchased it and Im confident I will find myself in that position again when its time to upgrade. If you want it bad enough....you will find a way!

I had to laugh at the food they were serving and the tour of the shop (amazing to see 997 turbos dismantled), no way BMW has that kind of budget. One enthusiast told me he's owned 7 911's over the years, both new and used, and he said I strongly urge you to consider a 4-5 y.o. pre-owned, which seems to be in the sweet spot. But if you can afford new, that's nice as well. |

how did you get the car for the whole afternoon? . I've never seen a dealer letting customers drive their cars for more than a test drive around the block ( or highway). Unless you know the dealer somehow. This is not the kind of car you want to let your customer take or put mileage on it.
Regardless it is a very nice car, however what's up with the interior , it looks outdated and cheap , maybe its your camera. Not the you buy the car for the interior but still at 88k I was hoping for a little more. Exterior is really nice though |

If you want something a bit similar (although its slower and older), look into a E46 M3. The driving sensation feels very similar.

I prob would of gone for it lol, there's no way i could of had it all afternoon taken it home and had it not come back. The interior does seem to be missing something. It needs more contrast, too much of the same color. Needs a black steering wheel and maybe a black dash. Other then that Its really nice.

Me too....just did some window dressing on Tuesday, and lost $6,800 on a stock sale. imho that's $6,800 further from the 997! (In reality it's a drop in a bucket in the overall portfolio but a LOT of money to me when I see it and actually book the loss)

LOL, more M Coupe folks showing their colors..
I sold my M coupe for a 1988 Carrera, and now enjoying the practicality of my X135i. I've owned many 1911's since the early 90's, all the way up to the 997's. Nothing is as raw as the older Carreras except the GT3RS and GT2. |

That's what got me into this trouble in the first place. Friend in KY just bought a slightly used 2012 Turbo S and it's a mean machine...but amazingly tame when just cruising. I was shocked at the Jekyll and Hide personality of that thing. One can dream I guess.
