Last time I took it above 6000 some guy and his wife screamed, "this a family town" to me at the next red light.

Drive it however you want.

There is nothing wrong with redling your car. That is literally within the safe operating range of this engine... To those fretting about redlining your cars, read - and comprehend - that again.

Going above 3000 rpm is irresponsible and you should all be ashamed of yourselves

You have to redline it just to match the torque of the minivan - literally has no torque 😆

A more precise question is how many people redline their car 4th gear and above on a daily basis.

Another interesting question is for those with DCT's, what percentage of the time when behind your wheel do you shift with the paddles.

I stay in D on occasion just to warm up a little before I hit the entrance ramp. The remaining 98% of the time I'm in manual mode. I know the difference between a 6MT and a DCT, but I wanted and bought a DCT to drive in manual mode.

Driving a whole journey below 3000 RPM is irresponsible and you should be forced to drive a Nissan Versa

100% in manual mode. The only reason why I didn't do the DCT tune is because I don't want my car to start up in auto mode.

Paddle shift 95% of the time, unless wifey is along for the ride, then 50% and a little more refined.

I think mine is 40% paddles, 60% shift knob... not sure why, it's a good way to change it up going back and forth depending on the type of road. If you meant auto vs paddles 50-50

I am the fwy on ramp champion 🤣. Once the oil is warm, time to make BMW engineers proud of their engineering marvel. I don't bounce off the redline but she is driven as she was meant to be.

Although with all the Uber and Lyft drivers floating around the streets at gas saving, customer milking minimal speeds it's tough to open it up anywhere near the city. It might be time for a Prius

You have to drop three gears to pass anything. With that said my car isn’t a DAILY but when i do drive it it only comes to life over 4500RPM.

Not a redline but the other day heading back from somewhere out of town on a 2 lane 35mph. Backroad turns into a 70mph glass smooth 6 lane expressway slightly sloping to the right in the distance. Spring sun behind me. Perfect visibility. No one around other than two cars way ahead of me. I didn't take it up to 8k but these cars of ours get to 100 like nothing. With the windows rolled up so smooth and quiet.

Contrast that with clunk vroom click clunk vroom click in Frappuccino rush hour stop and go, you know where the m is meant to live.

90% of the time I drive pretty moderately (6mt so like others mentioned takes some effort), that said I am over 7k every day. Theres a certain onramp on my way to work every day. It's 15mins into my drive too so the car is up to temp by then, I cant help but get on it each and every time. Always walk into work with a smile on my face, cant wait for tomorrow morning lol.

I sometimes find myself cruising at 4K rpms and I always rev up to 3k+ if I want any sort of acceleration. It's going to redline every chance I get but usually speeds limit those occurrences.

DCT paddles 99% of the time.

redline out of my driveway FTMFW

j/k I drive my car probably 3 or 4 days a week, I also drive a 70's F100 as my daily. When I do take the M3 out, once its warmed up, and the road conditions permit, I give the engine the fuel and air it desires, probably 5-6k a few times in 30 to 45 minute drive. Then again, if its rush hour, not happening.
