I like it thus far. I noticed a slight difference in throttle response (although that may be just in my head) and the noise from the engine bay has certainly changed...and it just looks great when I look under the hood. Doesn't hurt that I installed the alpine tune shortly after....

Had my bumper replaced as part of rear-quarter repairs, and it was far less damaged than yours looks. My estimate went from $1500 to $4200 once the shop removed the bumper cover and saw what was bent underneath.

Good luck.

Thanks. Looks like the pre 2011 shells with copper beneath? Looks really bad worn but maybe the way they come out in the picture?

Nope, there bad. I was a little surprised to be honest, I had an '08 E93 M3, identical mileage when the rod bearings were changed and they were in better shape than these.

I was also surprised the bearings were old style, I think the production date on my E90 M3 was Oct, 2010. It obviously got the old style RB shells.

Glad I changed them, I almost contemplated not doing it thinking it was the newer material. Does anyone know the official start date of when the new RB material went in?

Interesting, my '11 E93 is (I think) a Nov '10 build and had the new composite bearings, so maybe yours was right on the cusp and got the old ones?

Must of been, through process of elimination it looks like November was the switch. Glad I changed them anyways, my mechanic figured if I tracked the car frequently the motor wouldn't of lasted much long.

Changed plugs

Thanks to this forum was able to use the "patch cable" method to remove coil packs. Job took about 1.5 hours - not too bad really, never removed the plenum

Man, I have plugs sitting on my work bench waiting to go in. Been putting it off because of the coils closer to the firewall. 1.5 hours is not too bad.

Not to hard should be able to twist firewall coils with your hand unless you have gigantic hands.

Yeah - did my own plugs a couple weeks back. Not that bad. I used a variety of tools - differing sockets, extensions, flex-extensions....kept matching different tool setups to each plug......for most of the coils, used a big screwdriver to slowly rock back and forth and wedge off the coils. I think the hardest was the back left (is it #4? or 8) - toughest to see. But the fact you can see most of them is a luxury compared to other cars ive worked on.

Installing the tune and under drive pulley this weekend - cant wait!

Thought they where changed a tad earlier but Zipper is probably right, oct/nov then. Mine is built Jan 11 and had the later shells. Done at 37k, bit worn but way behind yours. In your case I'd say; good catch!

Found and fixed a rattle on the passenger side. Previous Owner must have taken off the passenger door panel as one wiring harness behind the panel was not clipped in properly and it was twisted around the door latch cable. For good measures I wrapped felt tape around that wire harness and clipped it back in place. Also I took out the dashcam wire and wrapped that with felt tape as well and re-routed the wire again. One (or both) of those things I did got rid of the rattle.

I know, eh? Now I sweat a bit thinking about the main bearing.

What model year is your E90 or the build date to be exact and mileage?
Keep an eye out on your Blackstone oil analysis each time you do your oil change.

2011 (build Oct '10), had the old bearing types in there. will do a Blackstone on the next oil change to get a new baseline to monitor.
