Also, yes you can buy a new car that was previously damaged, but a dealer is obligated to disclose at a certain $ level. Further, they are obligated to disclose if you ask.

Another interesting detail is the build sheet calls for individual interior color which was swapped to normal at the factory. Another unique part of the story. Going forward this car will be standout as a documented mistake making it even more unique for collectors.

As long as the paint job was done well and matched, I have no issue with the paint work. I'd rather have a front bumper with license plate holes filled in and no rock chips. And no rock chips on the hood. This is a bonus if you ask me.

This would only apply if there were clear and documented pictures/receipts to show the condition of the car prior to paintwork. Auction reconditioning is absolute garbage. Some auctions don't even have booths, just open bays where they repair and paint. They don't even take off bumpers.

The seller bought it from the auction house and then he did the repairs. So it appears the auction house didn't do them, but I do agree with you that's a good thing that the auction house didn't do the repairs because they would be guaranteed to be shit. |

I just looked through the BAT ad, and this is a dealer sale.Likely the same dealer who bought it from wholesale and is now flipping it. Nothing wrong with that. I would love to see the auction condition report. Dealer has no Yelp page (that I could find) or website.
Same dent on right quarter panel. |

A few months ago Rob Siegel, "the Hack Mechanic", sold a friend's BMW on BaT and noted the problem with BaT's description not including all the small flaw details. He did something smart and appreciated by the commenters. He made his own list of flaws and posted it as a comment when the auction first went live.

Auction closed with winning bid @ $68.5k. I'm curious what is the big driver here, the 1 of 1 color, or the story of a factory mistake?

Someone buying it wants to be able to brag/tell that they now own this car and the story behind it. |

Ding in the rear has been repaired pretty poorly, the fact you can still see where it was “fixed” in these photos suggests to me it would be worse in person.

Thank you for all the comments. Reading them was entertaining. I bought the car. I am GreggysDad on BaT (no child named Greggy in real life; however). I bought the car because I love E92 M3’s and I now have the only one made in this specific color (from the factory). It also has 20,000 miles, is a manual and has ZCP. The car is in great shape. I will drive the car less than 100 miles per year.
I purchased a black DCT ZCP with 28,000 miles last year, also on BaT, for $33,000. It is in really good shape as well, but the Atlantic Blue interior and 99% of the exterior are pretty much perfect. I will drive the black one less than 100 miles per year as well. I purchased my original 2011 E92 in early 2012 and have loved them ever since. It’s a Silverstone Metallic DCT with ZCP and has about 50,000 miles on it now. I drive it 4-5 days per month and don’t worry about keeping it perfect. My plan is to purchase a few car E92’s over the next 24-36 months and then sit on them. I believe they are going to keep appreciating in value. I only like OEM cars. I think so many of the E92’s have various levels of Mods, the OEM cars (with low miles) will appreciate even faster compared to other collectible cars. I have always enjoyed reading posts on the E92 forum’s, but this thread pushed me to register. Thank you for that. This is my first post. |
