Cool

Parts are coming in and starting to add up

Pictured:
- rewrapped OEM steering wheel w/ tri color stitching and perforated leather;
- minty fresh OEM carbon leather trim (bought from forum member);
- pedals from pedalhaus;
- new ballasts;
- new headlight covers (in bubble wrap);
- new osram bulbs; and
- new sensor for adaptive headlight code (somewhere in there).

Still waiting on:
- new steering wheel trim;
- new steering wheel buttons;
- new dead pedal from pedalhaus w/ engraved M logo (paint was all runny on mine sent me new one); and
- lux h8 180 kit.

Can't wait to get these parts from dining room table onto my car and neither can my mom. Hoping lux kit comes in tomorrow as I'll be doing headlights this weekend - more to come soon!

I don't believe you can buy just the covers/lenses from BMW for the E9x chasis, only the entire headlight - I looked for a long time it just seemed to be all aftermarket lenses.

The ones I got are from this site (going to need to use google translate lol):

https://www.bimmerjakes.com/cs/home/...s-e92-e93.html

They look great but can't advise on fitment until I put them on so I will let you know in a few days once I get it done, they claim OEM fitment so fingers crossed!

Ok so to answer your question turns out the lenses are OEM as they are made by AL being same company that makes the OEM headlights. Fitment is perfect!

Smile

This is kind of a mini write up on my experience taking headlights apart and putting new lenses in.

Background: the reason I'm doing this is because the headlights on this car have bothered me since I bought it. The lenses were sand blasted, they were throwing a stupid adaptive headlight code that made me want to punch my dash every time I started the car (which I suspected was from all the condensation in driver side headlight) and there was some aftermarket HID bulbs in there that literally gave me no visibility when driving at night.

Step 1: take bumper off (many DIYs on here for that)

Step 2: remove headlights (ditto for DIYs)

Should look something like this lol:

Step 3: remove all the bulbs, ballasts, covers and adaptive headlight module from the headlight.

Step 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmNXMoDsjCM

These are the tools I used:

Before:

During:

Testing to make sure driver side headlight is all good after it was resealed:

Cause of my adaptive headlight problem:

As I suspected the condensation dripped down to the module and fried it. The cause of the condensation wasn't even anything major it turned out that whoever worked on the car at the dealership before I bought it just never put the top lid on the headlight back on properly resulting in a bad seal and water getting in.

After:

Best of all no more stupid warning light - great success!

Tips:

- Take your time!!! this was my first time doing it took me about 8 hours which isn't too bad but definitely don't rush through this or you'll screw something up and all these parts are pretty pricey.
- Be careful when your peeling the lenses apart from the housing the sealant can get onto the chrome bezels and it's a nightmare to clean. I don't know what they used to paint the chrome bezels but I put painters tape on them because I thought I was being careful to protect them and when I peeled the tape off it removed some of the chrome paint - this stuff is super soft and sensitive be careful with it.
- MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LEAVE ANY FINGER PRINTS ON THE INSIDE BEFORE YOU SEAL THEM - pretty self explanatory and pain to reopen headlights to clean.
-Invest in clamps, they aren't necessary but they help for sure.
- Clean off all the gaskets on the lids for the bulbs to make sure there is no dirt or debris for a nice seal and no condensation + use some electronic cleaner for the connectors before plugging everything back in.

All in all super happy with the results even though they weren't 100% perfect -I'd say a solid 85%. The Osram bulbs are unreal! day and night difference in terms of visibility from the sh*tty old 8000k bulbs. Wish the Lux AE LED bulbs came in so I could do it all together but they should be here next week so more to come!

Small update

Got the LUX kit in and installed (hard to capture in daylight):

Stock left LUX on right

Also had the car coded:
- mirrors fold/unfold on lock/unlock
- removed seatbelt chime (i wear my belt just goes off when I stop and take it off which was super annoying)
- double flash euro style hazard lights
- windows roll up/down on lock/unlock
- navigation warning removed
- tail lights flash under heavy breaking
annnnd probably a bunch more stuff I forgot

Interior is next just waiting on a few more pieces!

Thumbs up Interior

Ok so back story here, once upon a time this car used to have a full custom interior, I'm sure you can find the thread on the forum if you wanna see the pics. Before I bought it, it was parted out and some not so nice interior parts went in in exchange for the good parts that were sold.

Instead of the original black interior it's now grey (leather is in great condition looks good on the silverstone too, not complaining about this), the m performance wheel went out and some sh*tty wheel went in, the IND custom trim out for some regular 3 series trim - which had broken clips everywhere that I had to replace as well and some really beat up M pedals.

Parts:
- New perforated steering wheel;
- New steering wheel trim;
- New to me steering wheel buttons;
- Clutch stop;
- New pedals;
- ZHP knob (I stole it from my ZHP before I sold it lol); and
- OEM Carbon leather trim.

Before:

No M Button - BLASPHEMY!

After/During:

That M Button thooooo...

Really happy with the way it looks now, interior is muuuuch cleaner. Honestly my favourite mod out of the bunch was the clutch stop. Coming from my ZHP the clutch in the M was way different and this little $10 mod improved the driving experience for sure.
