Actually it was put there for symmetry. Would have looked pretty dumb to just have one offset to one side of the hood wouldn't it.

I understand that, I guess I am more anal than that. I would want it to look like it was meant to be that way. Just looks a little ruff

Doesn't make sense to open up that "designer" vent. On the trailing half of the hood, it will try to force air down into the engine bay at speed. The only aero "benefit" from that is to increase turbulence & lift under the front of car. Now, if you cut your own new vents on the leading edge of the hood, you'd be on to something...

The hole is covered from the FACTORY for a reason. Engineers test how air circulates in the engine bay during operation so the only "functionality" people create when removing that is you functionally made it worse. gg. Honestly, if you put temp sensors throughout the engine bay, you can see why things are placed where they are. We seen instances where people removed boxes, batteries, etc. from the engine bay and certain areas got hotter than normal. My strng suggestion to everyone is to do "REAL" research before trying mods like this. Its similar to guys who increase intake ducting side for more "airflow". Great job because they just decreased intake air velocity.

If you look right under where the passenger side "fake vent" is too, you can see a remote power terminal. LOL, would be nice to get that wet eh?
Anyways, we see a lot of things like this happen. On one of the GM boards we are on, some guys cut out "fake vents" and make them "functional". Its not rare to see temperatures rise from what seems like harmless modifications. The way the stuff works on these cars are pretty complex and deals with a lot of high pressure, low pressure, air flow, vaccuum, etc. If you look closely at how everyhing is laid out in your engine bay, you'll notice high pressure regions followed by low pressure regions. This is because you need the air to flow and circulate. If you start hacking up holes, etc. and bringing in air pressure where there should be a low pressure region, you disrupt how the air is supposed to flow. |

This thread wins !
Extremely entertaining ! Maybe Ill take a drill to make more holes in my hood and REALLY cool off the engine bay since it's definately overheating. Oh yeah why stop there. The 2 side holes (driver side and passenger side in front of the doors) ... why not drill into those Im sure I will find something behind them that needs cooling . I hate that they are there and are only for looks.

Is this one of them, or do you have a high-end one? Sorry, but the word "vehicles" stood out. That would be awful if you would make the m3 your daily driver, mostly for the car, I would say.

nope no radio flyer cause no kids. I said vehicle because 2 are motorcycles. four i consider toys and the truck is the daily driver that gets left in parking lots or wherever without much concern for its welfare.
