There is no way of reading cam lift from a scan tool. Cam lift is determined by the cam lobes and is not adjustable or monitored in any way on the S65. The cam lift has to be OK or he has much bigger problems than 5-10 degrees of missing ignition advance. The only possible way valve lift would be off is if a lifter is collapsed at which point you would be able to hear it very clearly and think something is coming apart!!!

I am going off the BT Tool which gives reading for Cam values. Check them out yourself and plug in a BT tool. I am sure there are sensors to tell the computer what degree the cams are at in any given time so why do you think this cannot be caught on a scanner which catches every other signal out there?

I have the BT Tool and I was wondering which parameter you are using for ignition timing? There are a bunch of other parameters you can see with the BT Tool but nothing I can make out as iginition timing.

Thanks,

I know its really confusing isn't it? Shocked there are so many similar sensors in that car!

Major ones I use are

Ignition timing- think it is spark advance at VE cylinder 1 (there is only one that says "at VE cylinder 1"

A/F-lambda before primary catalyic convertor

IAT-internal ambient temp (says exactly that I believe)

Engine speed is clear

Knock-there are tons to choose from. I pick one just to log whether I am getting knock for more my own info

Go do some learning about the difference between valve lift and valve timing.

I'll throw you a bone. BT tool has absolutely no way of measuring cam lift, only valve timing. You are conflating the two as if they are the same thing.

Ambient temp: 59 dF, IAT: 114-118 dF, Rise over ambient: 58 dF

Alekshop IAT stress test (no meth):
Ambient temp: 83 dF, IAT: 130-170 dF, Rise over ambient: ~87 dF

M33 dyno (+meth):

DLSJ5 dyno (+meth):
Ambient temp: 72 dF, IAT: 82-95 dF, Rise over ambient: 23 dF
http://www.s65dynos.com/showDyno.php...ype=1&dynoID=2

Without meth, IAT rise over ambient was 58-87 dF, and with meth
IAT rise over ambient was 12-23 dF. Absolutely no doubt meth was
working just fine thank you very much, Silly Rabbits Trix are for Kids

If you follow my threads you'll know that I log and dyno more than most individuals on this forum!

Dude why are you assuming Im considering them the same thing? All I said is I believed there were a couple different measures on the BT tool for the cam specs. If you say it cannot measure lift then fine.

When you make an unequivocal statement that the BT tool supports showing cam lift ("tell you if your cams are lifting properly etc"), I could only assume that you didn't know the difference between valve lift and valve timing, since nowhere does BT provide valve lift measurements but it does provide valve timing. Make sense?

Don't spread misinformation.
