Good news on the 3.45 or 3.62 gears for DCT

Dinan released their 3.45 the other day: http://www.dinancars.com/store/produ...cat=800&page=1

3.62 will be available from others, which is what I am going to get.

The good news is the car responds and upshifts just like normal. With SMG, cars would not upshift at WOT with shorter gears as BMW made gear changes based on speed not RPM. With DCT, the car behaves normal and EVERYTHING works as designed. Great news for us DCT guys!

Dinan won't do a 3.62, I am going to get mine through Evosport.

$2700+ installation for a 9.5% reduction seems a bit steep to me....and its not like the engine can't push the gears it has already!

No one said Dinan was cheap, you have to pay to play.

4.1 LSD in E46 was $1550 installed at European Motor Work in Arcadia. I had my until I sold my car, no prob at all.

3.62 for $2700 not including installation is quite steep indeed. If there is 4.1 or 4.15 for 6spd at around $1500+install, I would definitely do it.

Talking

Alright, I just got of the phone with Dan over at www.Diffsonline.com and the 3.62 can be done. They can ship the parts or you can send the the diff, they do all the work, takes about 3 days, you get 3 year warranty, and they ship it back.

These prices include parts and labor except taking off and on the diff.
Going with a 3.62 gear swap would be $1895

Adding the 2 disc carrier with 40% static lock and stock ramps would bring it to $3495

Shipping is $95

I'll check tomorrow. Thats just the preliminary info. I dont think they've done a M-DCT yet but the good thing is that it can be done. Maybe they just assumed that it would be like a 6MT. Given your background, give them a call tomorrow too if you can, to clarify those details.

My bad, I've been busy but this is what I got back from Dan at DiffsOnline.com
"Basically all Salisbury style differentials are driveshaft torque sensing. This is because the input of the driveshaft controls how much the differential locks up. The factory m variable unit requires one wheel to lose traction before it adds lockup. Going with the Salisbury style carrier instead of the pump diff ensures you always have traction. The M Variable is a great differential for most people, but in spirited/performance driving situations the Salisbury style lasts longer. The easiest way to make the Salisbury unit its best is to add the 30/90 variable ramps. This will enable the differential to have altered locking characteristics similar to the MVariable unit found in your e90m3 differential. The M Variable diff is able to vary lock from 0-100% (according to BMW), which means that when you are off throttle it will have no lockup. This doesn’t allow the limited slip to be able to pull the differential back in line and be predictable. Even PTG went with the traditional Salisbury carrier, and did BMW NA when they asked me to make them custom one off limited slips for the e90 335 diesel cars that ran the 25 hours of Thunderhill in 07.

Hope this helps. . I can do 3.45s, 3.73s, 3.91s, 4.10s etc for an additional cost.
Also, Retail is $2295 for the 3.62 alone . If 4 or more guys gets it ,would be $1895 for the gear swap only. $1500 more for adding the 2 disc carrier with 40% static lock and stock ramps. Going with the ramped diff adds $700 to the pricetag (this is because of the machine work and extra clutch/parts required to make the carrier)"

Just out of curiosity, how many people might be interested -- regardless of DCT or 6MT?
Yep, I haven't given Evosport the go ahead yet though.

It appears they are going through diffsonline, so it is all the same thing.

So to break this down, better traction with the salisbury?

Don't make assumptions. Drag racing is a good way to see the impact of mods, not necessarily what I always want to do with the car. I want the car to be just as capable all around as it is now.
