BMW Canberra Says My M3 "Not Effected"
After giving the last seven digits of my VIN Rolfe Canberra said my M3 "wasn't effected".
I think they are the same unit since they came from the same factory at the same time, but until BMW Australia get bad publicity (i.e. someone dying), they won't do squat about it. Great cars... pity about some of the numpties one has to deal with to have them, though. |

so did anyone get to the bottom of why USDM E9x M3's were part of the takata airbag recall, but not our Aussie models? seems very strange that they would use differernt airbags in models shipped to Australia...
don't really want to have this happen.. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-07-2...airbag/8734052 |

Tried several times however BMW claim our cars are not affected. However could not say why ours were not part of the recall when other countries cars are affected as is the older E46. Perhaps takata had a secret stash of previously unknown airbags which were mysteriously installed in our cars which do not have this issue. Which by the way is getting wider and wider.
Perhaps we should all contact BMW and put more pressure on them and contact the relevant authorities? If one was cynical one would think the beancounters have determined this is the most cost effective way to handle this...hmmmm /RANT OFF Can contact here https://www.productsafety.gov.au/new...lian-consumers BMW at https://www.bmw.com.au/en/ssl/contact-us.html Last edited by m3toboot; 07-23-2017 at 04:06 AM.. Ok, now I recall the airbag systems in the US are designed differently to everywhere else.
Checked on realoem and all the US airbags are superseded in mid 2016. Euro version are not superseded and do not have the same part numbers as US. Would like to know who the manufacturer is though. |

Other recalls?
Just put my VIN into the BMW Oz recalls site (https://www.bmw.com.au/en/topics/off...s/recalls.html) and it came up with an outstanding recall for a "E9x S65 Reparaturkabel Batterieplus-Leitung einbauen" which Google Translate tells me is "E9x S65 Repair cable Install batteryplus cable".
Nothing about airbags though. Anyone else had this "batteryplus cable" thingy replaced? What is it exactly? |

wife's previous E90 323i (2010) apparently had no outstanding recalls yet I found the battery cable to be faulty. Has to take out the glovebox and access the fuse box and show them the issue. They sorted it for free luckily.

Car lost all power. Fully dead, as in no inside lights , no turning car on. Dead.
Couple hours later, all normal... After researching came across discussion on the cable so had a look and there it was.. where it ends at the back of fuse box, it was shorting out and the plug had melted little bit |
