The base M2 sounds awesome. In stock form it's pretty raucous, and with an MPE its next level. I wouldn't say the sound is any better or worse than the S65, but I'd say out of the box it sounds more dramatic. Stock E9x is very tame.
From the few videos out there the M2C sounds like the F8x. I think the f8x sounds good in comp pack form, but opinions are pretty polarized on that. I get the feeling the M2C is going to be the best M car in a very long time. The difficulty will be getting hold of one at anywhere near list price initially. The $35k e9x and $60k M2C are very different propositions price wise. What would motivate me the most to switch is my current car is DCT and I really miss driving manual, so the M2C and f8x are on the list. |

I've tracked the M4 GTS several times and classified the steering as 'not good', like the GT4 I also drove that day. Last weekend I tracked a student's regular M2 (ESS tuned, pretty entertaining) and the E90 and E92 M3. The M2 seemed to have the same type of steering as the M4, well in the 'not good' section. I do like how the M2 sounds though... but tracking it against a stock E92 I'd take the E92 every day of the week |

M2 can shed a lot more weight a lot more easily than the M4 though. Trunk, battery and roof and you're already down about 85-90lb. Most of the M4's weight savings is just in cubic dollars spent on the light parts that come standard (roof, FRP trunk, Li-ion battery), where the M2 has to schlep along with the base F3x stuff (There's probs 40lb in the battery alone! it's a gigantor 90aH AGM unit like our cars have) I think the M2 is still going to be lighter once you sort of "max it out". Maybe only by 100lb, but still lighter.
The shorter wheelbase might be an issue if the M2's wheelbase wasn't almost as long as the E92's...which isn't too short by any stretch (heh) I'd for sure take the M2C over the M4, but not the M3, because 4 doors > 2 doors, math and all and the F80 seems like it has room for a lot more tire especially up front I think the more compelling reason to go for the F80/82 is just the car/$ calculation is better for the F80. They're really pushing those things.

The M2C is even worse at 9.5" I agree that the lightweighting is due to those fancy components the F8X has and the M2 does not. Still, putting a CF roof on an M2 isn't a fun endeavor to DIY |

The max recommended width for a track M2 is 9.5 front. And 10 for the M3/4. And 10.5 for the E92. People are 'able' to make lots of things 'fit'. I think my point stands |

I'd rock 10" up front; not sure there is any such thing as a formal "recommendation".

Width and tire size are different too. You can get a 275/35-19 up front on the F8x. Bigger tires are bigger and bigger is in general better for grip. Hence why Porsche wants to sell you dubs on a base boxster to go fastest now, more big and tall sizes Personally I'd never touch a new M2 because mandatory connected nostrils. Apex builds wheels for our cars in 9.5, 10, 10.5 and 11. They have zero incentive to make things up. When Apex tells you the F8X has less space up front than the E92 and shouldn't run wider than 10 I listen. I think that's the wise approach. Ditto with the M2 |

I'm waiting until these are for sale and honest feedback starts showing up before I pass judgment. The automotive journalists are of course creaming their pants over it, but that doesn't mean much to me.
The formula is certainly right, but there have been plenty of cars that looked good on paper that didn't provide the driving experience we thought they would...

Does it have a v8?
M2 comp is a car I would love to drive and experience, but wouldn't want to own it long term. I'd get bored of it quickly. Should have come with an S55 from the start though, so they have that right. I'm quickly growing into that "old man" that doesn't love new cars, unless they are supercars or $100K+ machines. The formula of less feel, but more brutish performance just leaves me meh. |

I just can't get on board with the M2C. I loved my 235i but it lacked drama. The N55 M2 drives so incredibly well on the street but they cheaped out too much on it. At least they gave it a wider body unlike boring RS3. The M2C gives it a few more parts that it should have come with originally but then they tack on that HORRID front grille. Black is the only acceptable color so the grille is less obvious.
However, in 2 years the N55 M2 price will probably be down to $30s. Now that is compelling. I almost ordered one (http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1469584) before deciding to go back to S65 and I'm glad I didn't buy it new but would happily pick one up on used market after M2C comes out and dents the M2 value. Overall though I can't imagine buying a $65k+ M2C when you can get a nice E9x M3 for $35k unless you want new and small. |

I'm also kind of just shooting the shit joking around. I am usually the one person here who kind of defends the M3/4's or S55 in general because people on these forums act like they are complete crap. I'm also not saying me getting probably getting bored of it means its a bad car..... I do want to drive one to see how it compares to the F80... |
