Careful with the magic eraser but, some say it's taken off the dye on their leather. Search the forums for it. I wouldn't use it any further.

If im in a hurry then i'll just use water and paper towels, but normally i use a good leather cleaner that also ph balances. I use this on everything from my wife's purses, to my shoes and car.

how effective is it? Do you have to do multiple pass to clean?

Those are abrasive and will ruin the leather. I would never use it except as a last-resort to remove a stain or mark.

I believe this guy had the best answer in the whole thread sofar. Steam cleaning the leather steering wheel makes it sweat out the dirt and heavy oil residue that have altered its look and feel. it does not add chemicals residue from all those cleaners and you do not have to rub the wheel which preserves the fragile dye. The only difficulty is how do you steam clean a wheel ?
I would be interested in Wingzero's technique. I have used a stack of clean steaming hot towels but they quickly cool down and if too hot they will burn your hands. It's a tricky technique, maybe a steamer appliance ??

There are handheld steamers available, not that expensive I might add. Two kinds I've seen:

1. Garment steamers, low pressure, but still steam

2. steam cleaners, high pressure, shoots out steam to clean surfaces

both handheld, water reservoirs, electric plug, cheap (ish)

For the most part, I have a triangular attachment where I wrap a micro fiber towel around it and go to town with the steamer. Any "prep" that I do is simply take a nylon nozzle attachment and steam the wheel itself, opening up the pores a bit. Other than that, just triangle attachment with a wrapped microfiber towel.

For quick wipes, I just put hottest water I can handle into a bucket and wipe the wheel down with a microfiber towel.

What's funny is that I see detailing videos, like AMMONYC, using all these chemicals and work brushing the leather to remove the dirt and grime. All I have to do is turn on the steamer, wrap the towel onto the attachment, and I get probably much better results. Oh did I mention NO CHEMICALS and almost instant drying time?
