amg gts, anyone own?

I have e92 m3 and a F15 x5 for wife. We have been thinking to buying/adding another car for both of us can drive for fun. My wife keep telling me to sell my m3 because she thinks its a old car and will cost more down the road to maintenance it. (I just changed both TA in my garage and she didn't like the idea spending $1k on parts on a old car) However, I have no plans to sell and would like to add another vehicle for fun. I don't plan to take it on track but who knows??
I have always wanted 911, but I will hold onto it till I can afford GT3.
The cars we considered

1. 981 cayman s
2. m2
3. f80 M3
4. Amg gts (just recently considering it)

I am also considering amg gts, since the price of 2016 has come down a lot. I love how it has a exotic look. I will probably go test drive one but anyone have any opinion about the car?

A good friend of mine owns one. While I've only driven it a handful of times, I have spent quite some time in it and its an interesting car in many aspects. For starters, I think it looks absolutely stunning. It definitely commands a presence on the road that you would not get with the Cayman/M cars.

It's surprisingly comfortable and refined for a car of its stature. Compared to the Cayman, M2, or F80, it will feel a lot more engineered. The Cayman and M2 are very raw and pure, while the AMG GTS with its many drive modes and configurable assists etc, is far more advanced; for better or for worse.

Now the car is FAST, damn fast.

Although a few months back we were driving on the highway when a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 pulled up alongside to admire the Merc. He insisted on doing a few pulls. After some hesitation, my friend obliged. The old VR4 pulled a few car lengths on the AMG and we never spoke of it again.

The point of my ramblings? - get a 3000gt VR4.

In all seriousness, it comes down to what you value in a car. If raw, pure driving bliss is what you're after, go Cayman/M2 comp. If street cred and torque are your priority, F80. If snapping necks and having something truly unique and "special" is what you're into, go for the Merc.

Thanks for your feedback. We are not looking for power. We are looking for something for fun for both of us that feel special and luxury and something you dont really see on the road often. Cayman was fun to drive but it kinda feels outdated, m2 is nice but it overlaps with my m3 (both coupe), f80 m3 is also nice but not really special looking. Leaning towards to amg gts

You should really break the budget and get a Urus.. I want one real bad. Looking at the brakes In person and listening to it will make you fall in love..

Out of all the cars on your list, the AMG GTS will be better by a mile.. And I don't necessarily like Mercedes much either.

I see the AMG running around town every once in a while. My neck hurts each time. Such a cool looking (and sounding!) car.

What's your budget for this extra car? Curious if there may be some other options that fit the category. From what I've seen (in my very brief Googling) the AMG is considerably more expensive than the other cars on your list, and if turning heads and feeling cool is on the list...Man the super short and wide R8 has to be up there.

The GT S will definitely draw the most looks. They've held their value pretty well; I cross-shopped it with my Corvette but no way would I justify that extra money.

My budget max 100k. Probably not buying with cash, financing is necessary.
I considered r8, I really like the car but it is so outdated imo. I mean new ones are so nice but its out of my budget and old ones have outdated interior.

I don't know if you have experienced AMG cars but they tend to have issues (some minor some serious). I used to own e63 and frequented mbworld forums. I remember several owners had issues with AMG GT. Maybe amg resolved them maybe not. If I'm spending 100k on a car I sure wouldn't want to deal with reliability/quality issues. I'd lean towards porsche for this reason.

For $100k you can get a nice 991 GTS. Doubt you’d be unhappy with that. It will also hold its value the best.
