SES Light - Increased Emission with P2098 code. Help
About a month ago, the SES light came up and a warning on the IDrive "Increased Emissions". Because I am no longer under warranty, I took the vehicle to 2 BMW specialists to get some quotes.
After inspecting with the BMW scanner, it stated P2098 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim Bank 2 System Too Lean. They checked for Vacuum leak and determined the O2 sensors were at fault. They cleared the code, without replacing the O2 sensor and wanted me to drive for a while until the light came back up again. Did this 3 times and it always came back when I am driving and about 40 miles after it got cleared. After couple of more tests.. they replaced the Post cat o2 sensors in Bank 2. The SES light with Increased emissions came back up after 3 weeks and about 600 miles later. This time, I tried a different BMW specialist and he also stated it was the O2 sensors. The car drives perfect, but this SES light with increased emission is driving me crazy. Practically, no one really knows whey this light keeps coming up. Just wondering if anyone had this kind of issue at the forum. It is only P2098 code error. |

P2098 Post Catalyst Fuel Trim Bank 2 System Too Lean, it sounds like one of the rear 02 sensors is going bad. You need to have the car hooked up and running and get the live data to see what the 02 sensors are doing. Also, I hope they didn't switch out the 02 sensor with a generic brand. I found out the hard way, go with the OEM sensor. Oh one other thing, you are in Cali and all emissions related equipment is warranted for 7yr. 70k miles which ever comes first. Dave

bumping this thread - I had the same code p2098 and replaced the sensor and the CEL came back on after about 160 miles of driving... sensor was a Bosch brand.
Any help would be awesome, thanks! |
