That might not be a real example, but that's how a lot of it felt whereas in iPhone I can add a contact from an incoming message etc. just felt more polished.

I'm with you and all valid points that you stated. Android seems to not be a one size fits all type thing. They are customizable to where you can add contacts from pretty much any screen for example but not all phones have the same abilities. You can add various apps that backdoor certain things about the system so it becomes more based on apps than preloaded ability. All in all, they pretty much do the same thing it just comes down to familiarity with the user.
