Strange tail light issue

Hey folks.

A couple years back I installed a set of DEPO Euro style tail lights. All has been good until the other day when I noticed the driver's side inner brake light was out. No sweat - probably a bulb.

Pull it out and the bulb looks fine, so just to verify I plug it into the passenger's side. It lights up. Plug it back into the driver's side - nothing. So now I'm thinking an electrical issue. Joy.

But before I get too panicked, I pull the passenger's side light and plug it into the driver's side. It lights up fine. WTF?!

So the driver's side light only works in the passenger's side, but the passenger's side light works on both sides.

Thoughts? Has anyone ran into anything like this before?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the light might have the wiring harness installed backwards or is jacked up somehow? Seems unlikely though since it worked to start. Very odd.

I would check that the bulb and place where you slot in the bulb doesn't have oxidation on the metal first. You can lightly sand it with a very fine sandpaper (2000 grit for example).

Not to say this would not happen with oem but I had a million issues with aftermarket light parts on my e46 back in the day.

Is this the white reverse bulb or the red bar LED's?

No oxidation. I swapped the bulbs and they work fine on the passenger side.

Red bar LEDs.

I have a replacement housing being delivered today. Will see if that solves the problem.

Thanks folks.
