So far I would say this M car has made me the most paranoid ive been about any vehicle ive ever owned. I have owned several e46 m3s and e39 m5 and trust me those had their problems. But the main problem I am dealing with now is giving me the stress of impeding doom due to this engine tick I am dealing with. Below is a link to the video but here is the run down:

- Changed rod bearings, gave the shop Liqui-Moly 10w-60 for oil
- Engine began ticking at operating temp
- Got paranoid, looked up on m3post. Several others had similar issue with Liqui-Moly but no one really knows whats going on. Some reccomend to change back to Shell or Castrol
- After 200 miles, I changed the oil to Shell BMW 10w-60
- Tick was gone for 40 miles, then came back.
- Tick is now present as ever at warm operating temp.
- Video below. All help appreciated, this has seriously prevented me from enjoying the car!

from my understanding s65 engine has a slight ticking sound but from what I'm hearing in that video doesn't sound normal especially after doing rod bearings. maybe main bearings are going cus a knock is definitely apparent

Possible, but it is not a knock. This noise has been extensively documented on m3post but with no real clear outcome as to what exactly it is and how it goes away. Just that it happens right after an oil change, and that its "probably the lifters or a heat shield"

Is the climate control on? Try cold starting the car and getting it up to operating temp without turning on the climate control. Keep it completely off and see if that sound is still present.

Any updates on the ticking sound. I like this resto thread.
On a side note, I too live in the DMV.

It sounds like a lifter. Another possibility could be a manifold leak from a snapped bolt.
