I bought a cheap set of earbuds that fit into the pinna of my ear (more comfortable with a helmet on) for use with a Squawkbox. I think I paid $30 for them -- way better than borrowing someone else's.

Long sleeves would make things worse from an infection control POV.

A surgical mask has around a 60% filtration rate, so both driver and passenger wearing one would help. Maybe N95 + surgical mask for instructor. Good luck if you wear glasses though lol.

I still wouldn’t let an instructor get in my car.

The only way I could see it as even being potentially safe “social distancing” wise from an instruction standpoint is: both people, driver/instructor, put on face covering (eg balaclava) and helmet, with closed face only, before getting in the car. That’s a good start. Maybe even long-sleeves of some sort required.

No comms, OR figure out if there’s a way that works to sanitize comms between use. Or something where the student buys/gets a new earpiece from instructor or something similar. There’s several possibilities there I think.
Or go TNiA style with no in-car instructing, but I don’t think that’s safe nor with Drivers Edge standards so hmmmmm. Eagles Canyon lead-follow has been going well but the pace is least-common-denominator so less fun for the students that may be borderline on moving up a group.
The plan is to have two student headsets for your two students. Or you can use your cellphone and headphones...not sure how that will work with a helmet on.

I'm just going to buy a second student headset.

Might as well spit in each other's mouths and be done with it. Okay, that's an exaggeration, but I don't think it's safe to ride together at this point.

Students need to buy their own headsets. Its not like they are expensive. Then we just get in car, plug into the extension and done. No moving student headsets around at all.

Exactly. My coach told me that the very first time we worked in-car: bring a set of headphones. You can't show up to basketball practice in a pair of sandals and expect the coach to give you a pair of shoes.

It wasn't the freaking Spa TCR 500 (yes that Spa, and yes real life not sim) like I was supposed to be racing in this weekend - but did manage to make it on track a bit Friday at MSR Cresson. Coincidentally got some time in another TCR car - an Audi RS3 LMS. Got the M2 out there for a bit as well. Cresson had a few cars & bikes running - was good to see people again.

Sounds like BMW CCA Club racing is going to move the June race at COTA to October. Although I was really looking forward to being able to race again next month it does make more sense for them to move it at this point.

First FWD I've driven on track - definitely an interesting experience. Took a little bit to get used to the whole giving it more throttle to help turn in thing. Doesn't take too long to get up to speed in it though.

2700 lbs & 350 hp so its got a little pep - kind of sneaks up on you. Braking was excellent with its combo of AP Racing calipers & G Loc pads - bias is adjustable but I never messed with that. The transmission is meh - not great but definitely not awful either. The car handles very well. Very quick through the slower twisty stuff & could also carry some good speed through the fast stuff as well - the factory aero is a noticeable plus there - the car feels very planted. We were on RE71s - would have really been interesting to see what it can do on some fast tires.

Overall definitely enjoyed driving it. Being relatively light for what I am used to driving & being able to throw it around a bit was a lot of fun. Really makes me wish I had gotten the time in the M2 CS Racing prepped for TCR like we had planned. Would really like to see how it compares. Definitely worth checking out if the opportunity arises.

WGI is cleared for track days. Gov. Cuomo announced it in the beginning of this week.
PCA cancelled it probably due to the lack of participants

That's odd. The zone 1 event is usually completely full. 250 cars every year.

What a bummer

I read that events must be limited to 50 participants for now.

I hope that is not true. Because this will prevent some of the profit making clubs like SCDA to run events at LRP, as I heard this track is the second most expensive one to rent after COTA

I am talking about WGI specifically. No idea what if any limitations are being placed on LRP but HOD has unmuffled event there in a few weeks and doesn't appear to be a cap.

If you look at the roster of CHIN that is going to WGI on 7/1 and 7/2, its huge, almost sold out. A lot more participants than 50 for sure.
I was considering this event but now want to wait and see whats going on...
