Sacrificing style for safety?
I know this is purely a matter of personal taste... but for those who don't yet know, the headrest design is being changed on all M3's to a new active headrest design... great for safety, but I think it looks pretty horrible!
See the pics below... the new design is on the right. Yuk! I wonder if it is possible to swap it out for the previous design? |

No offence... but that sounds like a bit of a Health & Safety response!
My point is simply that the design could have been a lot better, the new one just looks awkward somehow. I for one would be happy to sacrifice the (very small) improvement this may make to safety to keep the old design! |

I don't think they look bad at all, and if they're safer than the others, win-win!

Not a big deal in my opinion. . .the overall design of a single headrest isnt going to make or break a deal for me. . .

I knew someone would see the light eventually... as I said at the start of my post, it's a matter of personal taste but I don't like them!
@ Gearhead999s - I've had some muppet crash in to the back of me at around 45mph a few years back (before active head restraints) and my neck is just fine... my head didn't even fall off! :P @ Lazlo - I'm afraid it looks like this will be for all markets! I got the PDF of the BMW international site... also has the Euro seat bottoms... |

Noob question, what exactly do the new headrests do? How are they active in a crash?

In other news, BMW decided to redesign the front of the M3 for crash effectiveness. Here what it looks like now...
