It says the new M3's V8 engine is designed to get stronger at higher speeds...that's nice, but I don't have anywhere to run 160+mph. In addition, they think pricing will likely be significantly more than the outgoing E46 M3's base of $49,995...a nicely equipped '08 M3 may very well run close to $70k. If true, I'll stick with a fully loaded PROcede-equipped and boosted 335i for $20k less!

Looks like they estimate it'll be 20k more than a 335...seems reasonable for what it is. But for those of us who had to stretch for the 335, the M3 is clearly out of reach. Think about it, the new M3 is a 335 plus a brand new Honda Accord 4 cyl. SE auto. You can have a 335, and a brand-new Accord to drive in the winter and when the weather is bad, or a M3. What to drive then in the winter?

After all, it's the same E92 body style with basically the same look (except for the obvious differences in the hood, fenders, quad exhaust, etc.) with the same interior conveniences and options (CA, Navi, Prem. package, ACC, etc.). The major differences are of course this new V8 420HP/295 lb.-ft. TQ engine, a better suspension, it's an ///M, and probably costs lot more money. Even though I just got my 335i less than 6 months ago, I'm already thinking down the road to my next one in '09.

Bah, Get yourself an M3 and you'll find all sorts of good places to stretch it's legs. $70K is a whole lot of money for a 3 series... I dunno, I just don't think I am interested, it's too far beyond my $50k happy spot anyway. Great Cars I am sure though..

Agreed.. a non-M, nicely-equpped 3-series over $45K before TTL is pushing the limits I would spend on 3... I'd consider moving up the series by then hehe...
But if I could, I'd get the M3 in a heartbeat.. it just looks so so sweet!

I would possibly consider a PROcede-equipped 535i for my next car!

close to 70, then it quickly becomes a car unaffordable by the very people that i feel SHOULD be able to buy it. And thats someone making 70-100k, not someone thats in the 150k+ bracket. I dont like the trend of the special factory tuned cars skyrocketing but i guess they dont want this to become the high volume car the E46 m3 was

Yes, they'd have to change that ugly bangled rear-end and add dual exhaust pipes for me to consider even looking at it. But, I think in 2 years, my motto might just be ..."have PROcede...willing to install in another BMW FI tt N54 engine."

sure they would still buy the 335. People shopping a car thats 46k optioned very well, vs 55 base (60k similarly optioned) is a big difference. The 335 is discounted as well, while the m3 will be sticker.

its probably wishful thinking, but i dont see why they cant sell it for 50 base again. IMO the 3 series is already overpriced compared to the competition. I know i know, we still love to buy them, and the price diff is worth it and realized in many ways...but its hard to ignore that the 3 series price has gotten bloated.

The base price should be low to mid 50s, but good luck finding a dealer to order a stripped version when they first come out. And good luck getting one for MSRP in the first year. Throw in the sequential, premium pkg, leather and the price is going to quickly add up. I plan on getting one, but not until at least after the first year of production.

The 535 is going to be a great car. I hope they put the 335 engine in the x5 as well.
