E92 To...

Selling the E92 M3 and now need to find something to swap over to.

My smart side tells me to buy an A<->B and wait out the price gouging, but...

I've grown up owning M3s through the E36 -> E46 -> E92 generations so, the next logical would be an F8X M3/4. Both of which are enticing but so is the F87 M2.

Anyone have experience with both the E9X and F87 or F8X M3/4s? Which would you snag?

please don't remind me of the exhaust notes, i'm already a little sad about it

Pretty much only interested in the competition packages due to resale value. So any of the above would be competition.

I had a F80 comp before my current e92 M3 and I would pick the e92 over that car any day. My F80 had downpipes, tune and sure it was reallyyy fast but it still lacked something. The electronic steering was garbage and the burbles were very annoying (i'm not old lol). I did take that car on the track and it was amazing. Not sure how the e92 compares in that department yet.

Are you bored of the e92 or what's the reason for selling?

Find an F8x owner who's willing to trade you his car for yours. Bound to be a few around.

If you are considering the switch to a F8X or M2 Comp I would HIGHLY recommend a DCT example. Not only will you pay less but it is ABUNDANTLY clear that the power delivery of the car was designed specifically for that transmission.

FWIW I think the F80 M3 is the best looking M3 ever made (quite a bit more muscular looking than the F82 M4) while the M2 Comp is basically a modern turbo-charged E36/E46 sized offering.

Either car will likely prove much more reliable than the E9X platform, especially if you leave them stock…okay MAYBE change the brake pads to a set of Ferodo DS2500s

FWIW though…I was fortunate enough to own an F80 and my E92 for about 18 months together.

Once my lease was up on my F80, I decided that the E92 delivered enough thrills for me and was more rewarding on the track…on top of sounding like an exotic.

I do miss the "watch what you're doing or I will kill you and laugh while doing it" tire destroying hilarity of the F80's S55 sometimes though…

I love the F82 comp because it is the spiritual successor of the Euro E36/E46 M3.
Straight six with just a right amount of douchery, presence, and driving skills required to tame it.

Rarely drive and it seems like the right time to do so.

I don't know that I can leave the 6MT behind. I went and test drove a 2018 M4 CS w/ DCT and was incredibly whelmed by the DCT.

DCT seemed enjoyable for daily/traffic driving but that was about it for me.

FWIW I don't track my cars, and likely never will. Which, on that note... the GF wasn't a fan of the lack of doorcards in the CS

I actually got into a 2020 Mustang GT Performance Package. Car handles definitely on par with the E92 and now surpasses it with the Ford Racing Track kit and 19x10&19x11 with 285/35/19 and 305/35/19. Car currently makes 449 rwhp.

I own both (they're both 6MT). Very different cars, but the M2C is one of my favorite cars made by BMW. If you don't need the practicality of a 4 door (ie F80), then the M2C would be my pick of the bunch.

I think out of the box, the M2C is just about the most well rounded car I've ever owned. It's got a personality that some of the other F and G generation M's just don't have, is a fun daily, but not too overly fast, has enough tech but not too much ect... stock brakes blow the E9x M3's out of the water.

I'm really happy with the car. I'd say the clutch pedal/shifter feel are not its strong point and interior materials are not as nice as my E92 M3 IMO.

Overall, the best compliment I can give it is that it "feels" like an E generation M. Highly recommended.

M2 Comp or a C8 base model i.e. if backseats are not needed. Yikes, I can already feel the hate from the C8 naysayers...

C'mon doctor Ferry, the C8 is lots of car for the money but I wonder if you're going American two seater if you're not better off with something more raw like a C7 or C6Z06 with a proper manual.

Great point. My brother has a manual tranny C7 Z06 and I adore it on Track. His has the optional carbon ceramics with Pagids and OEM PSCups. For what that car delivers it's very hard to beat. At the same time I like the mid-engine layout and compact design of the C8. Bang for the buck wise a C8 base might trump a C7 Z06. I don't know that's hard to decide. Your thoughts?
PS:
The PSCups at Autobahn in Chicago took a while to come on, even in May. But putting heat into them with the brakes and drifting/sliding a little solved that.

I'm glad I'm going to meet a real driver at the ToD event, maybe you can show me how to rev match, I've never been able to master that skill.
