I want to revive this ancient thread because I'm building a 1 series track car with S65 swap and wanted to remove AC for weight savings. I [think I] found the golden ticket to this... the S85 never swapped belt direction and the PS pumps are all over the place for fairly cheap, and bolt right on.
The mounting bracket from the S65 has to be swapped over since the mount is slightly different on the S85. The input connection is at a slightly different angle on the S85 pump but it doesn't appear to be an issue. If it leaks I'll just replace that pipe with a more flexible one with worm gear hose clamps. Since I haven't fired it up my only though/concern now is the flow rate will be significantly different and the PS will feel too heavy or too light, but I doubt it. I'll try really hard to remember to report back when I get the car together. UPDATE: Car is together and drives perfect with the S85 pump. I had to try a couple different belts and you'll want a 31.5-32" belt. I found the KRC 4060320 that fits perfect. Thanks!
I just got the Gates belt and it's too long. It measure 33.5." Autozone has a Continental 4060325 in stock locally I'm going to get tomorrow and try, should be 32.5" and be just right. I'll update above if it works. Edit: Ugh, still slightly too long. Trying a 31.5" KRC belt now. Edit Edit: The KRC 4060315 belt fits great, updating the post above. Edit Edit Edit: 4060320 fits better, the 315 was too tight, I was worried about it pulling on the main bearings too hard. Last edited by amg6975; 04-16-2021 at 02:33 PM.. |

Alright, Important update here. I actually had a suction hose failure on my car, which I'm chalking up to the angle of the S85 pump's inlet putting some tension on it. That with repeated track use split the hose.
I got to thinking and looking and trying to figure out how to fix this for good and since the two housings look identical other than that input angle, I figured I'd pop them open to see if the guts of the S85 pump could simply be put in the S65 housing. Can't hurt to look. Sure enough, they're identical other than the direction the orifices face so I just put the S85 guts into the S65 housing, all new hoses, and away we go. This actually happened in the spring [and I forgot to update this] so the car has some road miles and many track days on it with flawless results. I reused the same belt as above. |

Probably but I really wouldn't worry about it. Not much to go wrong in it. I'd be more concerned about the lines and reservoir. Upgrade the cooler while you're doing it.

All that you mentioned I have already done so. This is why my last concern was the pump. 2008 pump are expensive

I couldn't find the gasket anywhere but reusing the one off my fairly fresh S85 pump worked fine. |
