Is there anyone who can chime in with Avant Garde M359's where their paint is NOT chipping?
Or do they all chip and flake?? |

Plenty of people have had good fortune with them but yah, there's enough complaints here that I'll pass on them

You just gotta be extra careful with them. I don't have any chipping anywhere else on the wheel. Just the area where the shop went ham with the impact gun.

Wow… I guess they did not know that an impact gun shouldn't be used on this car, lug nuts can easily be over tightened.
Hopefully you're not running any spacers. |

For those of you that work in the wheel refinishing business will know, many OEM wheels from Europe take forever in the stripping tank to fully strip it down to the bare wheel. Japanese/Asian wheels are much easier and require a lot less time. AG wheels are made in Asia and I assumed they were hand-painted in an assembly line with subpar paint/chemicals, not surprised.

I've been wanting a set of the new AG M359's, given that they are flow formed and lighter than OEM M359's, but now I'm having second thoughts.
Is AG really doing nothing about this? |

looks like the tire shop damaged it but because the paint on the wheels is fragile it flaked easily. so both parties at fault. sucks because I was thinking of getting AG wheels

I did reach out to AG and they blamed the tire shop on it. It's not completely either one's fault, but I agree more with AG. Going nuts with the impact gun would have damaged oem wheels too. Just not to this extent.

Impact gun should never be used on an M3. Period. Lug huts should be hand screwed, then tightened to spec with a torque wrench.
However, that type of chipping doesn't occur on any OEM wheels regardless of what type of impact they sustain. |

Eh.. I've always used an impact gun with a protected socket to unscrew wheels off my car. Never have my wheels ever had flaking paint on the lug holes.

Ah yes, I was mostly referring to using an impact gun to (over)tighten lugs.
Indeed I too usually use an impact gun to remove lug nuts, and too have never had any chipping issues with OEM wheels. |
