MCS Single Adjustable vs Ohlins R&T
Has anyone driven both? Car is 90% track driven and Ohlins will be custom tuned but MCS will be off the shelf.
Feedback please!!

I don't have experience with both, but I have 1W MCS on my Z4MC.
You say that the car will be 90% track, but both systems you are considering have a definite street presence. More like a 50/50 usage. I have had the 1W MCS on the Z4MC for a while now and feel that I have definitely out grown them. On the M3 I'll definitely be going up a notch. FWIW, I was considering MCS 2WR, but have decided to go with JRZ Pro 2WR

I disagree with above and think most members and vendors will as well. R&T is definitely more street than track whereas with MCS even at 1 way it's motorsport derived. This is especially true when you have the proper spring rates, camber plates, and adjustments. There's no comparison. I myself have left KW CS and gone to MCS 1 way and will work myself up the chain to either 2 way or 3 way eventually.

You have a good point that the MCS 1W while more suitable for combo street/track, definitely have a track foundation in design. Especially considering that they can be upgraded to 2WR. (went through KW CS as well...)

I'm definitely leaning MCS as having the ability to move to 2WNR or 3W is appealing. I meant to add in, my budget is $3k-ish for just shocks. I have plenty of springs and perches laying around to put together the kit

The MCS 2WNR is a stand alone product and has different internals with the dual mode adj. knob.
The 1WNR can be upgraded to 2WR.

Good to know, that makes a lot of sense actually.

I had the MCS 1way and loved them. If you can afford 2way, do it, but unless you are tracking/racing frequently and pushing your car consistently I doubt you will need the extra adjustability. MCS were leagues ahead of the KW V3 they replaced on my car.

I've driven both but not on the same car. The Ohlins R&T are excellent dampers but biased toward street use. MCS 1WNR dampers have a wide range of adjustment and, therefore, perform well on track yet are comfortable on the street.
What about the MCS 2WNR? The cost is slightly above your $3k damper limit. I used them on my f82 M4 - excellent damper! The only reason I'd consider the 1WNR over the 2WNR is if I was planning on upgrading to a 2WR/3WR setup down the road. |

Just concerned about the "DFV" tech. Really need independent adjustment down the line. Will update this thread once I chat with PSI on how they can optimize the base Ohlins damper

If the car is going to be mainly a track car, Ohlins TTX would be a much better choice.

I'll probably go MCS 1WNR and move up to 2WR when I feel I've hit the limit of the car / shocks. The KWV3 with Swift's and Clubsport camber plates I have now are pretty good but I definitely feel variance in their dampening at stages in the session due to aeration I assume.... Picked them up brand new for $1k so I couldn't pass up the deal but want a nicer monotube track spec shock going forward. I am also in the market for a wheel to wheel car (E30, se46 or super Miata) so I need to keep the racecar budget down with two cars.

I'm going to be going the route of firmer linear springs on my Ohlins R&T.
