DIY for detailing engine bay?

Hey guys, I searched the forum for this and I found one thread on it. It was very informative but I'm still a little afraid of cleaning the engine bay. Can anyone give me a detailed instruction on how to do it? Firstly, the car in the other thread was an E46, so the wirings and all the electrical stuff is located in a different area. Can anyone show me where the electrical components that need to be covered are? My car is a 2010 E93 M3. Also, what can I cover it with? Sorry for being an idiot here, but I'm very new to detailing. Thank you.
