what does it matter which car is faster when the majority of the time you'll be stuck in city driving or behind a prius? if you're on the track, its an entirely different story which both 335 and current m3's aren't people's top picks. What matters is the enjoyment you get from being behind the wheel when you're stuck in traffic and thrill going around that prius; oh and of course modding.

its like finding the hottest girl at the strip club, getting a dance, not being able to touch.

picked the m3 because i want a car i can leave factory. tinkering with cars can cause a whole bunch of issues and that is something i dont have time for. both are great cars and id be happy for either.

I sold my '10 335i with JB4, full exhaust and E85 for my M3 and haven't looked back. The 335 felt faster off the line, but it died up top, suffered from heat soak after a while and handled like a sloppy mess. Yes it was fun to stomp on the gas and go, but the M3 is in a whole other world.

Jb4 335i is already faster than a stock m3.

JB4 335 will smoke a FBO M3. Add a 625/650 ESS kit and it's all over. No 335 has come close to me in the 1/4

To each his own.
You've clearly never tracked the M3 because everything you've said is utter BS.

The brakes are fine for the car, they just need better fluid/pads and steel lines to prevent fade. For stock powerplant, you only really need the BBK if you track a lot, since the stock ones will wear out racing pads in a hurry, and it actually becomes cheaper in the long-run to just get a BBK.

As for supercharging, I consider that more of a street/airstrip mod than a track mod. On highly technical tracks where the M's agility truly stands out, a S/C won't do much to improve your times, if any.

I used to drive a 135i, with the JB4 + Intakes and 93 octane. I now have an e90 m3 with HFC's x-pipe and axle back exhaust. There is no question the n54 chipped is a little faster. If you're interest is that raw pull, the N54 is a shit ton of fun. That being said, the driving experience of the m3 is massively superior than my 1 was. Although the N54 was definitely faster, the M3 still is fast enough to be fun. I'm still planning on supercharging mine soon

you can run a GTR to be faster than a Ferrari all day long. both cars are fast, but the experience is MUCH different.

I prefer a stock Ferrari over a tuned GTR. thats just me tho

I've always thought that getting a 335 and adding mods to it just to compare/beat a M3 is always a compromise. There's a reason why you're going for the 335...price.

There's a major difference between the 335 and the M3 in terms further than just straight speed.

An M3 is way more than just speed and track performance....

I honestly dont even know why threads like this exist. Buy what you want and be happy.

I now own both cars. I had the 335I first, and now an M3. The DCT M3 is faster than my 335I with cobb stage 2 + Full bolt-ons. With my race gas tune on the 335I running 100 octane, my 335I is faster than the DCT M3. Now that I'm putting bolt ons on the M3, I'm confident that it can equal, and slightly edge out my 335I on race gas. On the track the M3 is king, where my 335I suffered eternally from all kinds of issues. On the streets the 335I is more fun to drive because of the torque down low. They are both great cars in their own way. Silly comparison.

Crazy how this went from a question about a quarter mile and now it's all about track.

This topic has been beaten up plenty times. A FBO($1.5k worth) 335i will smoke an m3 light to light. Track wise a m3 will smoke it as it should. They are 2 different cars

I lurk these forums just to laugh at the 335 haters haha

Talk about a 180.

All these years, and it only took ownership experience of an M3 to change it all.

Great thread, good story to archive.

Nothing soulless about a n54. Amazing engine. Amazing tuning capabilities.
