I had a E46 M. I went to the track and saw all of these Z06 blowing by me as if I was standing still. Went to the dealer the next week and purchased it. Took it the track a month later and the car scared the sh*t out of me. I had no confidence when driving that car wether it was on the street or track (need a lot of seat time.) Back end was always hopping, tires sucked and brakes went after second event. You have to be a vette guy to really appreciate that car. As far as bang for the buck, you can't beat it. When I drive my M its like I'm part of the car. When I drove the Z, it felt as if it decided where I was going to go and I was just there for the ride. For me to have kept that car I would have had to change the seats, steering wheel and install all new suspension. I just could not do that after paying 60k for the car so I sold it and pretty much got back what I paid. You have to really drive the Z06 for a while and then drive the M3 to understand where I'm coming from. Good Luck.

In addition to my e90 m3 I also have a boxers s 986. I enjoying driving the boxster more. Steering feel is light years ahead of the m3. It's manual so I feel more engaged when driving whereas my m3 is dct. The boxster engine screaming begins my left ear is as intoxicating as the v8 in the m3. The m3 is infinately more comfortable and convienent however.
They both different cars really and it boils down to what you want from your car. As a second fun slot car, I'd take the cayman. You can access its thrills more easily than the m3 |

Indeed I did. Tires were so expensive I figured I would shred the run flats before buying new tires. I was fortunate enough to be able to sell it as is. If you have your heart set on that car I would wait until the C7 is in dealers and pick up a 09 and up. Its a great car you just have to be into it.
