I'm committed to BMW as long as they continue to make manuals.

Once they realize that we do not follow the Chinese taste for numb steering, Toyota-like cars with a BMW badge, and a ridiculous number of fake vents and badges then we might get our old beloved BMW brand back again.

We must applaud BMW on this step in the right direction. Or should we applaud ourselves for buying these cars? It takes two to tango.

I have a feeling if BMW simply started making the E46 M3 again without any change from the original and simply called it the 2020 M3 they would sell amazingly well here.

He does make one mistake. Autonomous cars are not the end of the manual. Innovation (and German over engineering) can make a transmission switchable between manual and automatic control of manual.
Yup. It’s called DCT

Sports cars dont have to have manual trans to be sporty but to make drivers feel sporty

I do have a 6MT on my F82 and like it so much more than the DCT on my E92

Can someone link that boot/shifter in the pic? I don't know why I've never seen that before. F80

If they are conscious of American tastes then why are they still pumping fake engine sounds through the speakers?

It's funny how a few months ago (and maybe still) dealers were using the scare tactic that "this [F8x] will be the last manual M3 ever made!"...I had a feeling it wasn't going to be the last one, just based on my interpretation of how (much) they were pushing it.

You can take the BS scoop out of salesmen, but can't take the salesmen out of BS scoop...

I grew up driving stick shift exclusively. But honestly what's the point anymore the new stuff is so much more efficient. Not to mention the monotony of sitting in traffic for hours.

Kids today growing up don't know how to drive stick or even what it is.

Actually yesterday I just saw a video on YouTube "How to drive stick shift", LOL.

But I have to admit there are things you can do with a stick shift that you cannot do with an automatic. Meaning Mission Impossible tactical driving.

Manual, manual, manual. Save all the manuals!

Thank you BMW! We all support your efforts to keep the manual alive. M cars should always have the option for a manual transmission.

What do you mean " GONNA" do the same thing... he has been TRYING to do the same thing already... buyers fortunately are demanding 6MT and now BMW has put a ///Marketing spin on it.

Indeed.. he still says... " as an engineer"... i think zee manual is obsolete.... these car buyers... and the media.... and these.... driving enthusiasts..... they insist there is some sort of pleasure from driving 6MT... but I am Spock....

It doesn't matter what he did at Audi. Every company is different.

Biggest BS I have ever read. I personally would pay $3k for a manual, as would many of us who would never consider anything but a manual.

That sentimental and emotional connection with the car that we crave...we would be willing to pay MORE for it.

If you think people pump their clutches hundreds of times a day to save $3k (especially when on a lease its far less), you know very little about cars, and people.

Engineers often view in a black and white lens. Sure the automated trans is quicker but there is more to it than that. Engineers are great and should be respected but it’s good to know that not everyone at BMW is an engineer.

If manuals were not a desired product, Porsche would not have bothered to throw a six speed in the updated GT3 RS.

I see this comment has gotten some flack. I'm going to defend it by admitting to being the one person who would have gotten DCT in my M2 if it was the same price as manual. I did want a manual, but wouldn't be able to say no to the extra gear, shifting for me, faster acceleration, and launch control at no extra cost. Also, the DCT would have put my car into $60k territory which was a mental block for me. That being said, I am happy to hear manuals will continue because I do enjoy driving my manual.

LOL! What? 3K on a car like this is not enough $ to change someones mind pn something so important on a vehicle... If they were the same price I think there might be a 1% change.

People worried about the 3K are buying this car used anyway...
