Same thing with housing. Housing market hasn't really taken a hit and activity is pretty high...at least in my area. Don't get it at all. With all the uncertainty with the economy, the last thing I would get myself into is a huge boat anchor of a mortgage.

I know I'm sitting on more than $10k extra cash at the moment.

Between doing a refinance on the house that closed in June (so no June/July mortgage payment), escrow refund, and cashing a stock bonus this month. And we will find out at the end of the month what my girlfriend's bonus is going to be at her new job.

It could double the number I mentioned up there.

But I'm still not ready to go spend $50k on a car just yet.

My theory is people have saved a bunch of money from not going anyplace or doing anything for a few months, combined with scaling back future spending like vacation travel. I know my parents and sister both cancelled expensive trips they had planned.

Media is making economic situation look more dire than it is. There are definitely certain industries really impacted like Restaurants, Travel And Entertainment but overall May and June are very positive.

Also 0% financing offer by Toyota doesn’t hurt.

The July issue of BMW CCA's Roundel magazine has a comparison of the Z4 M40i and the Supra. In the end, they chose the Supra.

^I don't believe the Z4 has won any comparison test when pitted against the Zupra.

Yup, this thing is on track to outsell the A80. The J29 is also a much cheaper car when factoring inflation.

That's not even factoring in the 2021 improvements either. I wonder if BMW will do anything to the Z4 to make it more competitive.

As a Z4 Coupe owner I am always confused by the hate the Supra gets from non-Supra fanatics. I would still likely choose the C8 though...

Cut the price

They're still upset that it wasn't done in-house using the LC chassis.

Yeah but then people would complain that it weighs over 4300 lbs and handles like a boat. Really Toyota couldn't win unless they totally built the chassis and engine from scratch. Being a company ruled by bean counters that was never going to happen for a low volume car like the Supra.

The problem is that it doesn't set itself apart from other BMWs. It could have used the Z4 hardtop chassis and Toyota everything else and it would have been way less controversial (whether or not it would be a better car is up for debate)

Unless I am a track rat, the fact the Z4 roof comes off makes it way more appealing tome than the extra handling the Supra offers. Horses for courses and all that. I feel the Z4 looks better too TBH.

The last Supra to be based on Soarer/SC chassis was able to shave off +/- 300lbs. I think a slightly under 4000lb LC based Supra would have been possible. IIRC, all the review videos on the LC didn't complaint about the way it handles. I believe most of them said it hides it's weight pretty well. Another reason was the price, a LC Supra would have cost more than the $50k starting price point of the J29. Toyota wanted this car to be affordable. Cheaper to reskin a $50k-$60k Z4 than to do the same on a $100k Lexus coupe.

It's funny that they approved the LC in the first place. It's sales are piss poor.

It has with anyone that has purchased a Z4. I love my Z4 M40i and have been extremely happy with the purchase.

I forgot to add the Z4 had a 4 months head start against the Zupra. All things being equal, the Zupra would probably already be at 6-7k to the Z4's 4k.

I think ultimately Toyota made the right call as a 4000 lb Supra at $80k+ would have likely been a poor seller. If you look at Japanese sports there's never really been a market for expensive ones. As much as we loved the original NSX and Supra TT sales were poor for both cars and absolutely nobody is buying the current NSX and Chevy sells more Corvettes in a month than Nissan sells GTR's annually. The price point of the current car is probably as high as it could be to still sell relatively well (which it is doing) and if Toyota would have actually built the Supra that the fanboys wanted, few people would actually buy it. In general catering to internet fanboys is a surefire way to build a car that will sell extremely poorly.

What's a better use of $50k?

Buy a Supra with cash so I have no debt? Buy it on 0% and invest the rest while making the payment.

Even fiduciaries say in most cases, paying your house off early is a poor, long-term financial move vs investing the extra principal.

THat's not what I am saying though. I'm saying folks borrow on a LOC against the house and at 2% they use it.

It still feels like there's too much debt and this is gonna end in tears one day.
