Austin - Discount Tires on 620 near Beecaves has a Hunter Auto34

Just an FYI for people in the area. Had my tires done there this morning. In talking to the Asst. Manager, there are 4 guys trained on it. Request installation on it when you set up appts.

For those that don't know what that is, only plastic touches the lip.

Heard about them, just had to find a place that had one. Just got my wheels powdercoated, and didn't want to chance them getting horked. Some searching and calling around, and all is well

By a mile...the best guy to do tires is Colin at Soul Speed. Too bad he moved his shop to harris hill road. He's done at least 20 tires for me and has yet to put even a mark on a wheel.

They'll handle my alignment, but for stock wheels and road force balancing, the price and location are hard to beat. Traveling down to San Marcos during Christmas season was not on my list of things to do *lol*

Lol...its always a good excuse with my wife. Hey! The outlets are right there! I may have dropped them off and disappeared for an hour...might have went to Harris Hill Road.

Good find! Soul Speed was my go to shop but its so far away now. Frankly, not a lot of good options for automotive anything in Austin.

I'm going to have to beg to differ on that one BoostLogic is in ATX, as well as SW's new place, http://www.eliteracingdevelopment.com/

What is shocking is how the car scene in Austin sucks. I know Austin isn't as big as Houston or Dallas but still...

Many have tried to develop something but nothing has really stuck. Maybe COTA will change things but with it being inaccessible to most...not sure.

Well, having Cobb in ATX helps. They host 1st Thursday every month, and the turnout is pretty good. Contingent of GTRs showed up last month. There there is Cars n' Coffee in Leander (1st Sunday), which also brings out a nice turnout. There's a few night meetups on the weekend, you just have to know the places to head to. In the past couple months, I've seen a McLaren MP412C, the engineer that has the red 458 Italia shows up each week, a couple Black series, a couple Ariel Atoms (one of which had a Rotrex s/c'ed K series!), and a bunch of other stuff that's pretty awesome. Austin also has a decent Supra community. SW's old black MKIV is still the fastest documented 6MT in the 1/4 and in the Mile.

I think as Cobb continues to grow, hopefully other shops will head to ATX. Slow and steady

Update:

I picked up some 18" Work CR2Ps and some Firestone Indy 500s and had to have them mounted. I recently found out all Goodyear tire locations in the area (not Lambs/Goodyear stores, as it appears Goodyear has acquired them, only the OG Goodyear stores) have touchless machines, and will do install/mount/balance for $25/wheel. *HOWEVER*....The machine at the Leander location is broken, and they apparently have no idea how to fix it (it's been broken for a month now), and the one on 41st street....this is rich....I called over there to verify the price. The dude asked me why no other place could mount the tires. I told him that some place else probably *could*, but the wheels are $640 each, and I don't want to take the chance and have the wheel damaged. He then got kinda nervous, and asked me to text him a pic of the wheels to "see how he'd have to set up the machine." He gave me his number, I sent over some pics, and shortly thereafter, he responded with, "We will pass on mounting due to the fact that we charge $25 to mount and the possibility of a liability claim outweighs what we stand to make on install." Which I read as, "I don't have confidence in my ability to not mess up your wheels on a machine designed to *not* mess up your wheels, so I'm gonna pass." Good to know, I don't want someone who isn't confident in their work to work on my car.

I scheduled an appointment @ the Discount in Bee Caves, and met up with my normal guy (they know me over there *lol*). Their new policy, when using the Auto34, is to charge an *extra* $1 per inch of wheel diameter....per wheel! So I had to cough up an extra $72 to have this done on the Auto34. Awesomeness.

On a side note, I found out that Audi doesn't use TPMS sensors in the wheels, so no more sensor rebuilds. They use the existing ABS sensors to calculate rotational speed, and if wheel is rotating slower than the others, ta-da, it's low.
