I spent 5k last week but I still don't see any points as of today.

UPDATE: Had to call Amex now. Rep stated it takes couple of weeks for the points to hit.

Probably has to be closing of statement. Otherwise, you could have returned stuff or whatever and not meet the $5K.

Have the CSR, but waiting for Amex to offer a 100k bonus to get the plat. It's happened before; it's just a matter of time...

It is still a stupid move by the dealership given how much they lose because of the cc fees. I still find it hard to imagine...but I guess if you buy enough they made plenty of money off you in the past to deal with the % hit.

CSR is best if you travel domestically imo. If I traveled outside of the country more I would very much consider AMEX.

Why do you say that? Just curious as I’ve been using the CSR since inception for all types of trips (mostly international).

I was under the understanding that amex had access to more and better lounges internationally than the priority pass.

I assume amex equivalent of the Visa concierge is better internationally. I forget but there was 1 or 2 other things that made me think it would be a better fit if I was leaving the country on the regular.

I have always considered AMEX is be the international traveler's CC. This is probably because of their marketing etc. I guess I would have to look at both more closely but when I looked at them before, this was 3 or 4 years ago, the CSR was the clear winner for me domestically. My coworkers who do similar travel agree.

At the end of the day neither are bad and I have 9k in travel money I have never touched so until I dwindle that down no chance of me switching...unless I cashed out but then it is worth like half.

Have the Amex Platinum.

GF has the CSR.

I would say CSR is more flexible compared to the Platinum when it comes to the perks. If you know how to maximize your points redemption then Amex is a better bet.

Amex gives 5% but ONLY on Amex Travel. It's not everywhere.

CSR gives you 3% on every site.

I am currently on CSP waiting to upgrade to CSR once 48 months are up - that's stupid of Chase to introduce the 5/24 rule.

I honestly have this question before, i decided to go with saphire reserve , let me explain why...

AMEX Cost 550$
- Customer services is excellent
- Rewards on 200 dollars uber credit and varies during year
- 200 rewards on airlines ( but cant be redeem to buy tickets, there is a workaround of this, buy miles instead ... but as for airline tickets itself, you cant ... BIG THING FOR ME )
- Lounges Priority pass with CENTURION the BIG THING why i could choose AMEX.
- Global Entry
- 5x perks etc etc etc...

CHASE Saphire. 450 $
- 3x Dinning and travelling
- 1.5x over changing your points towards airfare and hotels.
- 300 dollars credits on any TRANSPORTATION Cost. TAXI, UBER, TOLLS, AIRLINES
- Same Global entry and perks
- Priority Pass but NOT CENTURION.

and pretty much i ended up with CHASE because i use more the card as my daily use, maybe i could get more at the end on AMEX, but every year i ended up buying a ticket and it comes out basically free, i live in miami and i barely use UBER so for me it was a mayor down, now if i would have live in NYC, or etc i coud use AMEX for the uber credits and etc... BOTH CARDs are excellent, just think on what is the best for you, for example for my brother i recommended Saphire, for my friend in NYC, AMEX.

My 2cents.

Stupid? To keep a long-term customer happy who has a much higher value than a casual customer is stupid? On a $70,000 transaction they will pay less than a grand in charges. This keeps makes me happy and keeps me coming back, and more importantly, recommending them to any of my friends who are in the market for a car. I also bring my cars to the dealership for service and pay a little more for service because I get a loaner, have the 2 year/24K mileage warranty, and get to flirt with the cute blonde service porter. A win all around!

On the flip side there was what the Mercedes dealer did to my father 20 years ago. His E-Class was having some air con trouble and the first day they could take the car was a couple of weeks after he notified them. It turned out that the compressor was the issue and the repair cost was about $4,000. It also turned out that the car was one day out of warranty based on the delay and they took the hard-line and wouldn't cover the repair. He paid the cash and we haven't purchased a Benz in my family in 20 years and we grew up a Benz family.

The long-term value of a relationship is much more important than a single transaction. Transactional relationships are the lowest level relationship possible. Think hooker and john.

Cheers-mk

It is stupid to give profit to a credit card company is my point.

Visa generally have a fee between 1.43 percent and 2.4 percent. So at the high end $1680 of profit loss. Now, they probably still made 3-4k on the transaction so they are willing to take the hit. The dealership made money at the profit level that was acceptable to them at the end of the day. When I sold cars, at the largest Chevy dealership in America, they would have laughed you out the door if you tried to pay with a CC. We negotiated a price and now you want me to eat another 1-2k because of bullshit CC fees so you can make some points worth a fraction of that cost? Not happening. That is bad business. A dealership would be better off just discounting the car for what your points are worth if you care so much about them.

Most large companies do not allow CC purchases over X amount for a good reason. There is no reason to throw money at a CC company that comes off your bottom line, also, it is not worth the hassle of a disputed charge etc. Bank transfers work just fine. This is how business is conducted all over the world. If you need credit you apply for credit with the company, not using a credit card.

I like paying my hooker for a job well done! Both parties leave happy(I assume).

I have a Bonvoy Brilliant card that does instant upgrade, plus entry into air lounges, boingo, Precheck voucher, $100 in hotel credit and a free night each year. The benefits pay for the annual fee....if you use them.

Also waiting for M1 Finance to send me their card, but that’s a different animal.

Reserve card!

the $300 travel credits can be used easily, my toll pass charge is considered "travel" parking garages, and Uber making the AF really $150, that's not bad for never needing to bother with added insurance on rental cars and trip delay insurance

Amex plat is more for the Centurion airport lounges, limited to 1/2 dozen around the country, if you fly out of those airports frequently it's a no brainer

In my opinion I keep both and a chase freedom unlimited card for non category spend (non airfare/non travel)

Fuc* the points, it's the features that's Great, valuable if you travel a lot, easy to fall in a hole of debt, always always pay your balance in full
