Rod Knock?

Came back from grocery shopping and I did a few pulls onto the on ramp. This is what I'm hearing from the engine bay.

Here it is from the cabin:

I have the CarMax warranty active still. I'm not completely worried, but would like more information on what's going on.

UPDATE

So the diagnosis from CarMax is AC Compressor.

Checkout this video, it is the same sound.

We’ll see how this goes post repair.

That sounds quite bad, obviously the rod bearings are gone.

Yup she is gone. So what's the stats on your car ? How many miles did you have on your 2011 ?

Sure as hell sounds like it! Pretty bad too. Crank may be shot as well. Either way it's a good thing you have warranty. Time for a possible rebuild!

I hate to say it but someone probably dumped this at Carmax for a reason. At least you're warrantied

77,500,000 miles is pretty damn good. How was your driving, did you let the car warm up every cold start, what were the oil change intervals and what oil did you use.

I let the car warm up every cold start. I purchased this car at 77,100 by the way. When I got the car. I took it to my BMW dealership for a PPI and an oil change. I didn’t want the CarMax house blend in the S65. So that was my first interval. I couldn’t find much record on the previous owner’s service intervals.

Go and buy a lotto ticket since you were lucky/smart enough to get a Carfax warranty lol. I have never heard a more classic example of rod knock than what your video sounds. Watch everyone in this thread be wrong lol.

So this happened to you almost immediately after buying the car. That is such a let down. But at least you have the carmax warranty

I'm sure it already spun a rod
And they chucked bearings in it and sent it strait to car max

OMG, You are so lucky you have carmax because they are going to pay out and fix your car. Im sorry this happened to you. Good luck. Wish you back in a new motor soon. And back to the BRZ for a while ;-). In some ways you can say its a good thing this happened now as you can now have a scratch motor to work from here on out and your chances of this happening again would be small. I'd be swapping rod bearings if I was you shortly there after as I imagine you are getting a stock engine. Be sure to change the oil at max 6k intervals from here on out.

They are gonna source a used motor. I highly doubt they will swap in a brand new crate S65

Yes super lucky! The BRZ is a go cart in comparison.

So the diagnosis from CarMax is AC Compressor.

Checkout this video, it is the same sound. https://youtu.be/Wp3wTsyTFsE

Damn. RIP. I'm no expert but that sounds like it for sure. Good thing you have the CarMax warranty. If you can, get them to tow the car in.

I don't know what it will take for people to realize this issue impacts every S65 - not mad at you OP, just a frustrating issue.
