Best Replacement Battery

Hi y'all,

My 2013 M3 is 8yrs old now. So far the car only have less than 41K miles.
I'm looking and considering to get a battery replacement for the car.

Any suggestions which battery should I get?
If anyone have a list of batteries with their information so I can look at which one is the best with the least amount of weight, that'll be great.

Any recommendation is appreciated. Thanks

I replaced mine with https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...tteries-b7548/ Not exactly the lightest @ 45lbs. But the cranking amps are impressive and it's been great.

H8 AGM should work fine. A Bosch is about $160 at Pep Boys. Look for a 20% off coupon.

I have a Duralast from autozone. Works fine and comes with a 3yr warranty

If you only have 45K clocked on a 8 year old M3, a lightweight battery may not be the best option, unless you have a trickle charger handy.

I figured Bosch was the way to go when I replaced mine. It took me over a year to realize I got a bad one. I needed to put the car on a tender at home and sometimes it would even die if I stayed in a parking lot for a few hours. I was driving around with a jump pack. After fighting with them for weeks, Bosch finally gave me a credit since it was still under warranty. I ended up buying a Duralast at Autozone and all my issues disappeared. It's been solid for the past year or so. (I blame that Bosch for my alternator dying too) So yeah, Duralast works fine.

I think 2 or 3 companies make most of the car batteries sold in the US. Any of them are fine.

I would not pay twice as much for BMW to install a battery unless my car was under warranty or if I could not DIY, though in that case I would find a good independent shop instead.

I put one of these in my car last year and I have had "0" issues left lights on multiple tunes 6 channel DSP, Sub Amp, hardwired cameras front and rear and hardwired radar. It's a bit smaller than the stock one, I think it was a tad lighter. This one is made for our car but since its a tad smaller its much less a pain to get in and out.

I got OEM, didn't feel like getting any aftermarket since Battery is one of the most important component to running our M properly.

If you don't mind paying 4x as much for the battery and you really want the weight savings, you can go with Antigravity batteries. 43 lbs lighter than the ridic OEM battery. One of the better bangs per buck for weight savings.

Here's a link if you want info. It's race and street tested.

A Bosch or advance or Walmart or autozone or interstate or whatever battery will run your M just as properly.

Yup they def will. Just don't forget to register your battery when you replace it. (search here for more info) I consider the Braille one i suggested a bump up from stock. I also live in VT where my battery sits on a tender for 6 months.

If I had an unlimited budget I would try one of the lithium batteries. At least one company makes drop in direct fit examples with decent AH ratings. I drive year round in NH including temps as low as -20F so I need a battery that will work that cold.

Don't forget it needs to be coded.

I believe I have the optima redtop 35 with the Bimmerworld Optima Battery Mount Kit. previous owner installed this. Saves like 25 pounds. no idea if it was registered.

It's not currently on a tender and I frequently let the car sit 3-5 days at a time which seems like it's not recommended but so far so good. When it was at the detailer for like ten days I got a low battery warning when I picked up the car. I'm sure it didn't help that the detailer probably was opening and closing doors and trunk.

I put in an Autocraft Platinum H8 AGM 900CCA from Advance Auto in Oct 2018, and it's been great so far. Cost me $152 after core return and discount code, and came with 3 year free replacement.

Get em while they last. Pepboys told me they are discontinued so I had to have one of the last ones shipped over from a different store.

Yeah the car is not even 45K LOL It's only 40,600 miles. I'm debating to just get the OEM since that's the best bet especially with an M car. BMW created the car so most likely they know more about what's good for the car then I am so why try to change or replace things other than OEM. Also, I like to keep my car stock or at original parts until my extended warranty over or hit 80k miles.
